@BeatlesLyricsB

Thanks

IIRC that was released by someone like Peter and Gordon

The opposition need to be better at getting across their own plans, even labour have admitted they may need to still use barges to house migrants due to the total shambles the current government and home office have made of the situation.

For me this is fine, i can see the current shambles, so having to carry on with barges, hotels is fine, the concern is that the situation is so chaotic, this short term idea ends up having to be a long term plan.

However what are labours plans to sort out the NHS, education, social care, Big tech, online harm, end to end encryption (what is their standpoint), knife crime, causes of crime, penel reform so people emerge from prison able to integrate in to society, how will veterans be treated, where is the money going to come from?

@ProjectFearlessness

I think the issue is that the actual science is pointing to some pretty nasty consequences for not acting on the climate. For example we are already seeing heatwaves, melting glaciers, flooding, and more extreme weather patterns.

However it is not just climate, plastic pollution is also a huge problem.

So the science is being blunt and truthful, which is what people are demanding in a world full of mis information and trying to play down what is happening.

When it comes to taking action, we are going to need to make changes. Disucssing what we get from oil on here has prompted me to make some blog posts looking at this, as we get so many products from oil.

personaljournal.ca/paulsutton/

Some plastics for example. How do we replace them, As quoted on the above, it is not always better energy wise to use other methods. I have made a start and just brought forward a blog post

personaljournal.ca/paulsutton/

So we need to encourage people to change what they use, find viable alternatives etc and make changes that way, the scare tactics to stop drilling for oil, won't help, We need R&D to accelerate the search for alternatives.

So I agree with you scare tactics may not work for every one and may have the opposite effect, just stop oil are just annoying people, result of that is they may drive more out of spite despite knowing what the does to the climate.

I think some of the message on tobacco prpducts about cancers etc are scary and may have an effect on some people, but there are alternatives e.g vaping or perhaps nicotine patches.

FUN SCIENCE CHALLENGE TIME!

I keep seeing people on Mastodon saying people should be made to feel terrified about climate change as that's the only way they will be motivated into action.

Scaring people in order to save the planet sounds right up my street and absolutely the best way to spend my time. I'm excited to get on board!

But first, I need to see the science. Can anybody, anywhere show me something, somewhere scientific that proves this approach actually works?

#ClimateAction

it's me. I'm the guy who works for the grocery store chains, waiting for you to steal something so I can raise prices. I'm the one who does that.

And I'm careful never to raise prices a cent unless you steal

@Em0nM4stodon I don’t think this can be overstated. If your UI has a “yes” option but no permanent “no” option, you have failed at both basic UX and basic consent. Either should be a release-blocking bug.

Being an ally to trans people also means not being shitty about cis people's appearances (baldness, for example, in any gender). But that's not the only reason you should stop being shitty about people's appearances. You should stop because it's MEAN and BAD.

@TheUSASingers@union.place

Really useful explanation, thanks.

@arstechnica

They won't learn until we follow the example of iceland, arrest and put the bosses in prison, perhaps along with board members as they are meant to hold people to account.

Faced with very long prison terms, perhaps board members will actually do their job.

Last week our summer intern finished his program. He did a fantastic job! We were able to get alt text written for about 40 of the most iconic Hubble images from the Hubble Favorites collection.

There is still a lot to do — we have over 30 years of Hubble images that need good descriptions — but it's a start.

Over the next few days, I'll share some of the images and alt text, and talk a little about the science behind the images.

@SecureOwl

In allo allo, the communist resistance kidnap Colonel von Strome and Gruber , who are dressed as hitler and goring, they hatch a plan to force them both to announce an immediate unconditional surrender.

Now given how big techs beloved AI is being used to create deep fake, how about we get AI to deep fake big tech bosses doing or saying something that will cause them huge problems (in the same way their beloved tech is causing others problems) sort of pay back justice.

Of course how about a deep fake of Trump admitting everything in FULL,

@jon_alper Not an idiot question at all! We have a good idea of what the total amount of normal matter in the universe (what we call baryons) should be – even the stuff we haven't found yet.

One such estimate comes from the nuclear reactions in the early Universe, which produced hydrogen, helium and lithium. Different densities of baryons lead to different relative abundances of these elements, so by measuring these relative abundances we can work out the density of baryons. 1/

Fun Fact: Local news stations in Ohio have reported higher early voting turnout than 2022, noting that by last Friday, early votes tallied up to 578,000, compared with 288,000 early votes in the 2022 primaries.

@GottaLaff

If people are alert to what has happened they may stay alert to this and start to protest further, the GOP may not want to do anything that could hinder any 2024 win.

That is the sensible option for them, but as they are the opposite, they will probably do something, it will help cost them the election in 2024, then they will plot some sort of revenge later on.

@GottaLaff

Indeed, I think people are starting to wake up to what has happened, so have their chance to change things,. Hopefully this will be repeated in 2024 and gop can be kept oput of the white house long enough for the DEMS to make real change for the long term in the US
