Perhaps we need to engage student s in to developing real alternatives to a lot of chemical products we get from crude oil

Make it more viable to make ethylene for example.

Post here earlier about making it easier to make solar panels for example, or finding alternatives (if any) to as many products derived from crude oil. or if we can't can we still extract what we need and do something with the rest (e.g we need to extract the fossil fuel chemicals to get at the rest).

By engaging it would help tackle the mental health issues associated with the worry of climate change as students will be engaged in something positive to tackle the issue.

In an essay out today in the AGU journal Eos, @jeffcorbin, Meghan Duffy, @carlyziter and I discuss the urgent need to move beyond the "it's real, it's bad, it's us" approach to climate education. What is desperately needed instead are pathways towards climate action that engage and empower students, while helping to fight the immobility of climate despair.

Meet the Sheep!

In order to mitigate #ClimateChange & biodiversity loss, globally, we need to vastly reduce over grazing so as to #rewild the land.

But, if you try to explain to sheep the scientific evidence of why we must restore ecosystems, for various psychological reasons they don't listen.

Going by what they "baa!", #sheep don't understand that vegetation such as woodlands sequester CO2, whilst sheep generally emit methane & prevent tree growth.

@WarmthHighest2

Maybe if Trump is keen to be abroad someone can build a wall around the North pole or some isolated island somewhere and he can live there, with the rest of his Republican friends.

@uspolitics

He would be welcome in any dictatorship, given he is a former US president and probably has enough info to share on many national security topics. This would be a serious security risk not just for the UK but for the civilised world.

However he is welcome to turn up in those countries dead, at least he can't disclose national secrets that way.

If you want to see CMYK support, my friend Martin Owens @doctormo is working on Inkscape via Patreon donations.

Please boost for visibility. Having functional CMYK is vital for printed works made with #Inkscape.

Reading further down the article, it looks like AMD and NVIDIA do it, too. Y'all are making me really glad I don't work for any of you.

Closed-source drivers really need to become a thing of the past.

At the risk of sounding like one of those open-source crazies... Mesa drivers will NEVER do this to you.

We argue over whether or not having an app hacks system in a fully open driver is sufficiently transparent. Don't want that driver hacking around games behind your back!

The notion of scraping your web history in a GPU driver would never occur to us. If someone proposed it, it'd get NAK'd so hard they'd be feeling it for a year.

is this is anything like the furore over the name of a lane "Black boy Lane" with accusations of racism, when a local black person wasn't even offended by the name,. Probably more offended being told they would find it offensive.

Will we ever have solar panels that can be built sustainably? Will we ever have solar panels that can be assembled without a clean room?

Low Tech magazine posted a thing about Zinc/Antimony solar cells a few year ago, and I found that there were some schools working towards zinc cells more recently.

I've even seen some rumbling about nickel oxide cells, which look interesting.

If we could reasonably produce solar cells with materials and tools available to regular people or community workshops, makerspaces, etc it could legitimately change the world.
