This is a testament to just how hard cybersecurity is. Microsoft had the forethought to not store keys into crash dumps, had the forethought to build a secondary system to double check them, had the forethought to store them on an isolated network, but a cascading failure basically blitzed through all their security controls and allowed nation/state hackers to walk off with critical signing keys.

Still think we're exaggerating? Behold the right wing's latest genocidal plan for America

I don't like talking about bad news, I'd much rather shitpost. But I feel like everyone should know that the Heritage Foundation along with 50 other big money think tanks have come up with a detailed plan "Project 2025" whose explicit goal is to expand presidential power in order to, among other things, imprison LGBTQIA+ people, and eliminate us not only from the internet but from public life altogether.

THIS IS GENOCIDE.

SAY IT.

@dancinyogi @dabertime @kel

I have had some pretty deep conversations on here, so don't give up hope, it is possible with the right connections.

But I DO see your point here,

@dabertime @kel

I agree. I have some people in real life who can have those deep and profound conversations. This is the only reason I miss the birdsite. When I was kicked off for insulting Musk, I lost touch with a few connections with whom I could have such open online conversations. I haven't found that here, and sadly, I doubt I will.

If you're in the #UK , the petition to require #train companies to keep ticket offices and staff at #railway stations only needs another 3,500 signatures to force a parliamentary debate, so please sign if you haven't already.

It's a really important #accessibility issue, and the closures are opposed by the RMT (National #Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers).

@infmin

The resonse from government to all these issues does seem to be we have invested in these services, so perhaps the question that needs to be asked is how is every penny of that being spent. As we saw in the Lucy letby case, the Manager who failed was given a huge pay off, we NEED to stop rewarding failure for a start.

Yesterday 6/9/2023, a prisoner escaped from a prison, the BBC had someone on today 7/9/2023 that was high up in the prison officer circles and he wasn't holding back on saying how understaffed prisons are and how hard it is to retain staff and why.

He was blaming cuts made during Tory Austeirity and many other things.

Current investment is simply replacing the money that was cut years ago. But it also seems it is not taking in to account rises in costs since thast time a 4 million £ investment 10 years ago, will clearly not buy the same about today.

The sonner we get an election the better, two by-elections coming up that are in seats with a huge tory majority, if they get overturned then the PMs and party grip on power has to be seen as untenable, and they are going to have to call an early election, knowing they face being wiped out at the next election anyway.

@withaveeay

Yeah I agree there, perhaps my idea here is that we teach more critical thinking in school and try and hope the next generation will see the big tech corporations as the manipulative criminals they are.

I think schools are doing this toi a point, trying to get the students to think what they do on line, think about their digital footprint etc. but we have a long way to go.

Just getting kids to get their parents to STOP sharing media (photo / video) of them is going to be a big step forward.

@withaveeay

The way I see this, is that if you just answer the questions and hand over the data, you are part of the problem, if yu take a step back, think, use critical thinking to and apply those questions to what you are asking for, then in the case of a washing machine asking how old you are, you throw the question back at them or simply refuse to answer the question.

They may eventually get the hint and stop.

I can't see many people doing this, and just hand over data,l so more device makers will insist on the data.

@HuffPost

While they are both nausiating, this would make an interesting debate duo.

@thanius
Under normal circumstances and for most other sites, If a peertube instance was ranked first in google, (well below the paid for results I guess) that would be a good thing, but clearly it is the opposite in this case and not a good thing.

It does show we can have fedi content easily findable.

What it means for trump, WHEN he is thrown in prison he will at least have like minded people to talk to, however they may want to have a quiet word with him too.

More than 4,000 years ago, a dog left his (or her) front paw marks on this clay brick while it was lying out to dry.

Brick was used in construction of the Great Ziggurat of the moon god Nanna at the ancient Sumerian city of Ur.

Whoa, why do I find this unnerving.

This is quite a long term in Prison, and quite rightly, however could this give some degree on indication as to how long Trump faces in prison. Given this MAGA leader et al who have gone to jail were, by their own words or those of their lawyers following trumps orders (or similar word) that lead to the Jan 6 insurrection.

Surely trump needs to be put in prison for a good amount of time, after all he is a leader and as with a captain of his / her ship they are meant to be either the last one to leave or go down with a sinking ship.

Going to be interesting.
