The UK was a wealthy country. Then conservatives imposed austerity to "save money."

Now the UK is largely a poor country. Outside London it is poorer than Mississippi. NHS being killed off. Schools, infrastructure, etc.

But the rich are doing very, very well indeed.

Ghoulish and immoral: “After botching a series of executions by lethal injection, the State of Alabama is planning to use nitrogen gas to put condemned prisoners to death. The first execution will amount to a human experiment, because neither Alabama nor any other state has ever tried to kill people this way.” https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/18/opinion/alabama-executions-botched.html?unlocked_article_code=Ttc9YlrzynJ5zOTo22dP2BYn6FvnQLG4b7YbkuUgDB3HxqFVgmA1imd1LDb5uHBaj-ngqQZ6oOGXP9fAFai3s_ytr4dJM938JCzn4X5alN5O8onxR_PhfdlNbW4m6KtcbCAv7xS4j6JukUBRvc-xKcpIuBKvpn4XPNVA1gxmV2JBvyeB3q9eUEiRC9ygdvYeV8VGsQCs9RpNcrrGfY0Dp-M24W0Tw2d79e-GupB3ZuFq7ZDhu1Vt1DzdH5idxjEkq9el4DoHfFwBTPY7MwUOwE7aF-dt0tpKygOcRazZSjF0lsSL_egxIDQo6ZQHi30iLEulsWeQb73nCCn3_lE7Ato1JkQ&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

Okay listen up college students and soon to be. Do everything you can, community service, clubs, internships, jobs etc. It all matters, and you need experience to get a job. You can't come out with just a college degree and no experience and land a job. In fact, with no experience you can't even get into grad school either if that is in the plans. Grad schools ask for a resume, so just take these pro tips from a masters degree holder. Please share widely. I want to see students succeed!!!!

New instance #introduction!

I'm Steph (they/them) and I'm an astronomer! Mostly what this means for me is that I write code, develop open source software, wrangle huge datasets, and swear at the supercomputer. I do these things to further the knowledge of small solar system objects (especially the really far away ones) and exoplanet atmospheres (especially the big hot ones).

When I am not doing these things I am probably playing video games. Or thinking about playing video games.

Hi! 😊

I need someone to diagnose me with hysteria and send me to a retreat by the sea for a few months please and thank you, DM me if you have a medical degree

That "smart lighting" from Philips is about to spy on you in new ways you can't control -- naturally the company is claiming it's to protect you. This is Trump-level lying.
