@soviet

Well, we have found better and more barbaric ways to kill / treat each other.

Ending the year with cleaning up stuff: deleting files and folders that I will definitely not miss (I still had PDFs from university times), throwing away cables, putting stuff online for sale that I don't want to use/own any more...

Getting rid of stuff always feels so relaxing for me.

@Infrapink

Perhaps a good counter headline to go with this could be:

Immigrants to take jobs of locals because locals are so thick they spread nonsense and are too lazy or stupid to find out facts.

@Infrapink

I am guessing all this is just spreading on facebook., tik tok etc, as in the usual suspects.

I'm absurdly excited to learn that 2024 = 2³+3³+4³+5³+6³+7³+8³+9³.

...and it's because:

2025 = 45², and

45 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9, and

\( 1 + \cdots + n \)^2 = 1^3 + \cdots + n^3 !

I'd really like to see the terms and conditions for 2024.

People are pushing back on the overly-centralized social media platforms, and this year it led to an explosion of exciting projects in decentralization. eff.org/deeplinks/2023/12/taki

This: "There’s not going to be some new killer app that displaces Google or Facebook or Twitter with a love-powered alternative. But that’s because there shouldn’t be. There should be lots of different, human-scale alternative experiences on the internet that offer up home-cooked, locally-grown, ethically-sourced, code-to-table alternatives to the factory-farmed junk food of the internet. And they should be weird."

Lets hope people are sensible enough to STAY AWAY from the coast or at least stay away from sea walls, etc, where they face being swept in to the sea, and the volunteers at the RNLI need to risk their lives to save people involved in preventable incidents.

Enjoy a walk by the sea by all means but please keep safe and keep others safe.

Teleportation: if we ever get them, they absolutely MUST exhibit some behavioural commonalities with a relational database—notably they must exhibit ACID properties: atomicity, consistency, isolation, and durability.

If teleportation isn't ACID you ain't getting me in that booth!

At #37c3 they have IRC, and Matrix for text and for voice they setup their own LTE/2G/3G/SIP/DECT network where you bring whatever phone-like device and pick a 4 digit phone number.

Meanwhile in the USA for #defcon they just paid Discord money and told everyone to accept their privacy policy, and even the DC Privacy Village asks people to sign up for Slack and Google.

People ask why I fly to CCC from the USA. It is because that is the closest place to find a thriving hacker culture.
