@info_activism The problem is a computer - human interface s th e stuff of science fiction. Where it is used for GOOD THINGS,. What people fail to grasp is the idea that right now you are right it will be used to mine data for money.
As with the Facebook metaverse. To counter thing we have got to build and make a better alternative (we have the fediverse) ensure people want to come here to get something they are not getting elsewhere.
Easier said than done when we are all free thinkers and not wanting to be assimilated
Also focus on the fediverse and the good stuff rather than try and focus on the negative of the corporate centralised networks

@Gargron Would make it easier for people.
I found Skype is allowed to be called "Skype for iPhone" so maybe "Mastodon for iPhone" will work and save me this headache. Still thinking about a subtitle though.
@thor Folding@Home was a great project.

@zstark They can still be infected and infect others, the vaccine helps the immune system fight it off. The evidence is that those in hospital are reduced.
Some deaths were due to underlying health conditions, something the BBC news at the moment seems to be neglecting to point out when reading out statistics,
We need accurate data and consistent data so there is less confusion.
@mur2501 I think as long as they are responsible and transparent regarding promoting items there isn't a problem, the issue comes from when they promote misleading or dangerous ideas weather intentionally or by mistake, (everyone can make a mistake)
It also perhaps depends on the audience, are the audience capable of looking up information presented and confirming to themselves that reliable., Tell the difference between fact, satire, fiction for example.
There is no reason why someone on the fediverse can do the same thing, talk about what is important to them Peertube could be a good platform for that,
@freemo Looks good, however if I make my browser window smaller I get the graphic getting in the way of the text.
I have also attached a screen shot of my display information, browser is firefox 78.12.0esr (64-bit) under debian 11
Hope this helps, the website looks good, maybe the fonts text could be a little bigger but then that may have an impact on mobile users, I am fine with zooming in to make text bigger.
@samuraikid@activism.openworlds.info Indeed but we need to convince others about this.
Social media (centralised) is designed to be addictive, keep you coming back and make you feel guilty if you don't respond to something.l
The algorithms are made to tap in to human psychology.
As the fedi has none of that, it requires more user effort to get more of what you are looking for.

@b6hydra OK, yeah text on its own can be misinterpreted
@Johncdvorak If you want to fight against the anti vax people post links to real science, sure memes are great as they are fun which works really well.
@lucifargundam Well easier said than done. A lot of people use facebook and are very tied in to it, as are their friends.
I think we need to give people a good reason to be here.
FOMO or Fear of Missing Out, what we perhaps need is something on the fedi (even if linked to other services e.g IRC), that is not on centralised social media, that makes people want to join.
Any #BSD devs in Texas looking for new work? Had a meeting today that makes me think we're going to need at least one more person familiar with working on any #BSD, but #FreeBSD in particular.
Also could use someone comfortable with Makefiles, networking, and shell scripts to help with CI and some releng/devops-type work.
Remote positions possible, but it's preferred that you're able to come into the office.
Boosts welcome, let me know if you think it'd be fun and you can join in! 1/2
