Again hard to say because a lot of manipulation happened through Cambridge Analytica & Facebook.

Indeeed, it seems to end up back at education. If we teach people proper research skills they can look things up and make up their own minds by looking at both sides of an argument, look a the evidence and draw conclusions. BUT also debate with others.

@pixouls freecodecamp.org/ has a responsive web design course that includes accessibility. If you already know HTML / CSS you can just take a look at that section perhaps

I got 2 go, so will carry on with this tomorrow.

@alienghic @Argus@mastodon.technology Social media can be a force for good I think this conversation demonstrates that really well.
if we didnt have social media, maybe media reporting would be better.

@zleap @Argus

Probably lower emissions, and I think we could learn something from their process of debating how a technology would impact their culture before deciding whether to adopt a technology.

Sometimes I wonder if we would have adopted social media if we knew what it was going to do.

@LearnTribe@mastodon.social Indeed, at least we are trying our best on this one.

@zleap @Argus

Thanks!

As some people put it, it's currently easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism.

@LearnTribe@mastodon.social Yeah, We need to work in partnership with young people to help the future, and ensure we all read from the same page when campaigning on issues.

@alienghic @Argus@mastodon.technology I think there are pockets of this, what about the US Amish communities, for example.

@alienghic @Argus@mastodon.technology I will try and share that more widely,

@zleap @Argus

If you want global warming solutions there's drawdown.org/

Though I think the real reason our political leaders continue to fail at making a solution is the most direct solution is a smaller economy more focused on peoples well being than buying more and more stuff.

Butan is probably already below net-zero, but they deliberately prioritize a less materialistic society.

@natecull We seem to have people like Masons and some other group in the UK who are secretive.

I wonder if cryptocurrencies are the 21st century equivalent of the secret societies that littered the American social landscape from 1870-1945.

But an extremely individualistic take on them.

* sense of belonging to an initiated group with higher secrets
* built on weird, incomprehensible rituals and mysteries
* chance to make a lot of money, but the inner circle always makes out better than the rank and file

@itnewsbot That would upset the US healthcare industry though, who must make a fortune from pollution related illnesses.

Pushing renewable power immediately could save trillions in health costs - Enlarge / Building a lot of these would pay for itself, albeit indirect... - arstechnica.com/?p=1809437 #science

The projects need more exposure soi people know about them, I suspect we don't for a reason, politicians don't want us knowing there are workable solutions

@zleap @Argus

There are groups working on it, and there are some short range electric aircraft almost in service. Long range & fast is quite far away though.

Currently high speed rail can offer similar enough speeds and is easier to build.

The TGV is a very low emission travel method (because of France's heavy use of nuclear power) at 3.2g of CO2/km. Bicycling is around 8g of CO2/km and it rapidly increases from there.

This tweet had some comparisons

@LearnTribe@mastodon.social +1 to that, it is whe the rest of us get attacked for trying to recycle when sorting our rubbish just ends up being mixed up at the recycling centre anyway or it is dumped in another country.

Just e-mailed tucows to see if they can help the site owners or at least let them know there is an issue.
