Not sure about rest of the world combined but certainly more CCTV that most countries. Didn't exactly deter / stop the stabbing of the 12 year old girl in Liverpool on Thursday.
Well there is little in the way of punishment as a deterrent anyway so makes no difference in that respect.

@root I guess we are probably somewhat immune to their addictive side. Maybe they don't trigger the same endorphin stuff or something
@root I don't play games very ofthen, I do play c&c red alert, if i get bored, i will save and come back another time.
I don't let the gaming dominate my time. I usually have other things to do.
@chicgeek I have been trying I think it will take a few of us to contact them and ask.
Western Digital drives seem to require Windows to update firmware. Even though they could provide transparent updates via https://fwupd.org/
I've learned some of mine have dangerous firmware bugs.
I've posted on WD forums and filed a support ticket for this.
Maybe if enough people are a PITA about this to them, they'll finally do something about it.

@downey This sounds like great news.
While the UK is not in the EU following brexit, this sort of thing could force the UK government to do the same, people are not going to come here if they are not afforded the same protections as other parts of Europe be it for employment, holiday, business etc etc
So if the UK fails to follow suit the economic consequences could be very real indeed.
Lets change Could force, to WILL HOPEFULLY FORCE

@Nobody@freeatlantis.com Torbay Abuse and Sexual violence partnership
Granted people here are not all from Torbay, however if you can reach out to them, they can hopefully put you in touch with someone who can help.
@Nobody@freeatlantis.com Indeed, which is why it is important to help.
Adults could be in an abusive relationship, victims of coercive control for example.
If anyone else following this thread needs help please speak out.

This is EXACTLY why I was trying to get these child protection / mental health groups onto the fediverse, makes signposting easier.
Lets hope something changes, but the internet has just made child abuse worse as it s easier than ever to find / target victims for grooming and abuse.
@Nobody@freeatlantis.com I agree there,
I get the impression too that disclosing anything rarely leads to action to help the victim, this is wrong on all parts there, if a person comes forward with something they should be believed and helped.
Sounds like your system in the US is just as broken as it is here,. people too scared to take action usually. Don't want to hurt the feelings of the person who is accused.
Or the he case of Rockdale and a few other places here in the UK a few years ago, the authorities apparently didn't want to be accused of being racist by Asian gangs grooming and raping children and teenagers.
@aral The more I read things like this, the more my Likening Facebook to a cesspit is justified.
@Nobody@freeatlantis.com Having undergone safeguarding training, if we are told something we have to pass it on to the right people who are trained to take it further (or say directly to the police) and certainly not take the law in to our own hands.
I can understand the sentiment, but as adults we seem to forget how our actions impact children.
Well done to the girl for speaking up, very brave thing to do.
@Nobody@freeatlantis.com
The problem is that any witnesses to this are going to get a real wrong impression of who Santa is..
Yesterday 2611 a 12 year old girl in the UK was stabbed and died in hospital, currently a 13 year old 2 14 year old and a 15 year old boy are in custody.
What ever happened, by all accounts was pretty vicious and violent, lots of other young people saw what happened, and are pretty traumatised.
So any young children seeing santa and elves beating someone up could have a real negative impact on them.
