Hopefully more people will be setting up their own instances for friends / family etc. As discussed business certainly should.

Just got tone-policed and told I should go back to Twitter by someone who joined Mastodon… *checks notes*… three days ago.

Welcome to the fediverse. Please leave your entitlement at the door. Thank you.

*smh*

@wftl

It is still friendly though , a lot of that is down to the self moderation tools.

I remember Mastodon being a quiet place, an exclusive club with only a handful of members. Now, look at this place!

We're starting to get some data on the @Raspberry_Pi hosting this instance.Would you rather see ...

#introduction
Hi I am Erik. I am a computational biophysicist/-chemist at Uppsala University, Dept of Chemistry – BMC. My interests are broad, and span a multitude of artistic subjects as well, where 3D modelling and rendering is becoming increasingly relevant for me as it combines well with my endeavours in the molecular sciences. Music and Brazilian Jiu Jistu are also close to my heart.

We've just crossed 1k followers!

❤️ A special thanks to our Mastodon community

This seems really interesting and exciting stuff, granted iti is still early(ish) days I guess, but this technology will hopefully be more affordable over time.

A good time to be in BioTech

Many in vitro #CRISPR knock-in approaches use small molecule drugs to improve the efficiency of homology-directed repair, but these drugs may or may not be safe in vivo. In this paper from #NatureBiotechnology, the authors find that an FDA-approved therapy, fludarabine, can be used for a similar purpose. Still a long ways to go before any genetic knock-ins are routinely done in vivo, but making progress toward doing so safely: nature.com/articles/s41587-022 #science #medicine #GeneEditing #AAV

Yes, it's possible to make artificial gravity with a spinning spacecraft - but there's a big problem if the size is too small - the Coriolis force.

Gotta say, #Mastodon reminds me of a more curious, more fun era of the internet. Send me cool science / tech / art / music links and accounts. I'd like this moment to last a bit longer.

Cool, thanks for this, interesting ideas here, there is a lot more yet to learn about the universe and all it's quirks.

The sooner we build a mars base the better, I nominate Elon Musk, Mark Zukerburg and mostly heads of tech giants to be the pioneer humans to live there.

We can then focus on expanding free and open source software solutions without the risk of being threatened by corporate bullying

@beardalaxy

Yeah turrets are a pain, for defence they are really useful as on C&C you set them apart in such a way their range crosses over so there is no easy way for the enemy to attack wothout being attacked from both sides.

Attacking turrets or ground defences on C&C I try and use air attacks, even if there are a few AA guns nearby once you have damaged or destroyed ground based turrets (or similar) it is easier to move in with tanks, at times you just need to use units as cannon fodder so you can attack with other units. they can only ffire at one thing at a time.

An intersectional festival about collective practices & free technologies production.

#OFFDEM started as an Off festival of #FOSDEM to protest surveillance capitalist sponsorship and the lack of conviviality. But since OFFDEM kept happening while FOSDEM went online, OFFDEM have diverged substantially -- although it remains on its initial positions against the #FreeSoftware #Community takeover by corporate interests.

Let’s try this again. Where you at #fediverse? Boosts welcome so we can get the best sample size.

'Young life science researchers are leaving academia at unprecedented levels for lucrative jobs in the private sector. Like Gorashi, many of them are entering graduate programs already knowing they don’t want to remain in academia long-term, making their time in the ivory tower a pit stop rather than a final destination.'

If you're here on the Fediverse right now, you're probably experiencing shock.

You're coming to grips with ideas that were previously foreign to you: decentralization, federation, instances, etc.

This is intimidating -- probably even scary.

But while you might feel like a noob (and you are), you're also on the cutting edge of *the* biggest communications revolution in a generation!
