Any company / entity can fail. Captialism is about making money, if that is the case if a company fails to keep customers happy then it may fail. Competition is a good thing, also peoples values change, it may get to the point where enough people are fed up of being exploited, at the same time alternatives are there ready to scoop them up, and they move, then the way things are done is rewritten.
Can you explain more about what this is please?

A recent post cited how much in the way of donations an instance received. Perhaps we need some sort of fund raiser to produce apps, and if they are all free or open source software, sync the features, so they are all working properly and to a specfic standard.
It doesn't matter if we have 10 apps, all with the same features, but with different UI's it gives people choice of UI without having to choose between feature x and feature y across different apps.
