Thanks, I am happy being here and to point people here to qoto. if people block us, then it potentially stops users seeing interesting content.

I said this before our blocking policy is NOT an issue. If i see content that I find offensive, I will block / report it.

Compared to a few months ago, things have calmed down immensely back then there was a LOT more racist content on the fedi, Not to mention rather questionable images (which have been discussed it a cultural thing yes, but we can simply block it).

@zleap @skrishna Indeed. I had little to no insight on all of these happenings. I continue to learn. And this video was great and highly digestible.

I hope that the extraordinary work of Swapna (amongst others) is an inspiration.

I know that I am inspired.

@bonifartius @passis

Ok, well i am happy to boost information on other instances. I am on Qoto as it is a science basedinstance.

I said that Mastodon moderation wouldn't scale, I was wrong. The cultural differences will likely continue to maintain a friendlier atmosphere regardless of size.

Pro-nuclear opinion

@Naughtylus I think they have made wind turbines more recyclable, not that this helps all the turbines that are in operation.

@passis Boosting to help spread the word, Mastodon is really starting to come in to it's own in terms of equality and diversity, great stuff.

I've collected some #Mastodon 🦣 #instances to help with the #TwitterMigration focused in #inclusion, #accesibility and #minorities. They look like safe spaces for most of us. I'd appreciate the boost and new recommendations to add to the list:

🔗🇬🇧 ableism.rip/about - space to fight ableism
🔗🇬🇧 disabled.social/about - for disabled people
🔗🇬🇧 neurodifferent.me/about - neurodiversity and neurominorities
🔗🇬🇧 iaccessibility.social/about - interest in assistive technology
🔗🇬🇧 blacktwitter.io/about - history and voices for black people
🔗🇬🇧 lgbt.io/about - for LGBT+ and allies
🔗🇬🇧 queer.party/about - queer-oriented instance
🔗🇬🇧 tech.lgbt/about - for tech workers, academics, students, and others interested in tech who are LGBTQIA+ or Allies

Please boost to reach more people!

@adamjcook @skrishna Agreed, great that the two telescopes can also complement each other and people can easily see the difference. Makes the costs involved easier to understand for the general public who fund these programmes through taxes.

Hopefully also inspires people to study Science and Astronomy too of course..

@skrishna I love these comparisons and detailed explanations. Thank you!

Comet C/2020 F3 "NEOWISE" reflected in Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, California (7/10/2020).

This is a single frame. There was moon light illuminating Fannette Island and the bay. I did a little dodging and burning and color grading in #darktable running on a Linux box.

You can really see areas of active star formation in this latest #JWST image (as opposed to the #Hubble image — I do a side by side comparison!) youtube.com/watch?v=k4PZ7fFJ-J

Here's an interesting question: Can you attend this weekend's #EmacsConf with GNU #Emacs itself? Be sure to attend these great presentations December 3 and 4: emacsconf.org/2022/talks/ And if you connect via Emacs, let us know!

Rare cosmic event beamed light at Earth from 8.5 billion light-years away

"An incredibly bright flash that appeared in the night sky in February was the result of a star straying too close to a supermassive black hole, meeting its untimely end there as it was ripped to shreds."

If you're reading this, and you're struggling in any way...

If you're depressed, anxious, angry, bitter, heartbroken, confused...

Just close your eyes for a while and focus on anything that makes you smile. Listen to your favorite song. Think about someone who makes you laugh. Shut everything else out.

It gets better. Just believe that.

The Gays :apartyblobcat: & Physics

@Physicist

Hmm not, I even Helium is getting expensive,

The Gays :apartyblobcat: & Physics

@Physicist Given we usually only change 1 factor in science when repeating experiments, maybe that is the next step.

Unless Krypton is more expensive ?

@submono@mastodon.social

And you may not want friends, family, employer or potential future employer to read a toot that is nasty or abusive (unless there is a good reason).
