Indeed. employers need to focus on skills and ability to do the job.

possibly sexual references

@Jessica Not after doing sport as you are hot and sweaty, for us guys it causes erections.

#today is Black Bin Monday in my area. As the Green recycling bin is full to overflowing, all the recycling from my block will be going into the Black Bin until next week when it's Green Bin Monday. Last time I complained about this fiasco I was told to take the overflow to the tip. I explained that the bus drivers will not allow me to travel with four smelly black bags of refuse and neither will the taxi drivers. Anyway, we pay for them to empty the bins!

Who is saying that, the only time hubble becomes useless will be when it breaks down completely. so long as it sends back science it is useful.

The bbc reported too many times JWST was the Hubble replacement, they didn't seem to understand the areas of the spectrum it can view.

“People are saying, ‘Is Hubble going to be useless now?’” says Tom Brown at @spacetelescope. “It’s not, because it has unique capabilities... Hubble’s pretty much the only game for a huge chunk of astrophysics."

Great stuff, we need more of this fightback, you can take books out of libraries but not from private book shelves or the internet.

Students Taking Back ‘Ownership’ Of Education

“We defended these books, which remained in the library ... We saw book banning slow down, and that was really phenomenal to see.”

“It shocked me that a district i had grown up in was not only characterizing my identity as a lifestyle, as a choice, but it was calling it alternative and inherently sexual.”

Anyone got a good, civilian-level article about Activitypub? I am not a coder but I am good at looking for weird uses for things. Looking to understand the full extent of what it’s capable of and easy ways to run things.

@omniumgatherum

Or just post stuff here, where we are more mature. and capable of seeing things within context,

@omniumgatherum

How is this being allowed to fester and grow without anyone actually challenging what is going on.

Florida teachers told to remove books from classrooms or risk felony prosecution.

One teacher called the directive "a travesty to education" that interfered with efforts to "connect with books and develop [a] love of lifelong learning,” writes @JuddLegum@twitter.com open.substack.com/pub/populari

This was one of my first shots of the roseate spoonbill that showed up a few years ago.

I love how they sweep their bills back and forth when they are looking for food.

The rot set in during the Mid 90s when MS eventually wrote a web browser, however it broke websites as they failed to follow standards in an attempt to monopolise the internet

@futurebird There are a good few people on here at all levels of science, so hopefully someone may pick up on this.

if your efforts are useful somewhere else then they are not wasted.

My failure to get anyone interested in numworks makes me depressed. It all came down to one guy who teaches stats & just didn’t like the idea of changing anything. I did a whole huge presentation on the advantages of this less expensive, more flexible, calculator but this is why companies like TI are so intractable. No one wants to think about technology. It’s the fediverse v. twitter problem all over again in some ways. It’s hard to get people to reconsider a choice they don’t see as important.
