@zleap @EPPGroup Collaborators get what they deserve. The French were much more homicidal to the quislings when they regained control of their Nation. The Taliban have been relatively humane comparatively.

Folks who vote for Republicans don't think harm will come back onto themselves.

In Florida, firearm deaths went up 18.8% from 2015 to 2020 - the 32nd largest increase among states, per the CDC.

And states that have weakened their firearm permitting system have experienced a 13-15 percent increase in violent crime rates. - everytown.org/solutions/strong

As for Republicans, they’re not pro-life.
Nor fiscally conservative.
Nor small government. (Control freaks.)
Nor concerned about their constituents.

Everything centers on making people die faster and in worse ways.

I think there are clearly numerous ideas, all of which have merit as our climate, even in 2023, can display all sorts of weird and wonderful phenomenon which to these civilisations would be difficult to understand.

Again why I like it here, we can discuss, throw ideas around and ask questions in a civilised manner. How social networking should be.

@wdlindsy
American kids deserve so much better, I would guess the issue is, the size of the country and who controls the curriculum, what is taught at school. Schools are accountable to government. Surely US schools are at state level at least, what about employers surely they demand high standards of people leaving so those students have the skills needed, surely colleges also demand high standards.

My question: why are we expected suddenly to educate Americans about this basic presuppostion of all scientific research only as a pandemic breaks out?

How is it that American schools are not inculcating this kind of critical thinking and awareness of what science is all about, throughout students' educational process?

How can so many Americans be so lamentably uneducated?

I often get the sense that quite a few people do not actually know what I write about and instead make assumptions about what I must write about based on another set of assumptions about who I must be.

But, if you ask me, I write about democracy, and this column — about the near-total absence of accountability for American police departments — is very much about democracy.

Bird charity locked out of Twitter after woodcock tweets

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norf

Still waiting for a comment from twitter but Musk apparently said this is ironic.

Hmm, so twitter allows racist and anti Semites on but post about a bird and you get this..

@EPPGroup

Someone needs to explain that to our home secretary in the UK, we have left all those Afghans who helped us to the mercy of the taliban, despite endless statements this wouold not happen.

❗ Europe is sleepwalking into next migration crisis!

Existing European migration policies have failed.

We urgently need a new Migration Policy that is:
✅ fair with those in need
✅ firm with those who are not eligible
✅ harsh with the cynical human smugglers

I also watcheda documentary, about moses, the parting of the red sea could be a misinterpretation of reedsea a sea of reeds which grow near water.

@vivienhessel @theweaselking @SamuelBepis

Everything is open to interpretation, the story of fire and brimstone from god has some truth, well in the fact they have found glass in the area, thing is that glass was caused by meteors or similar hitting the sand, superheating the sand, forming glass, so the science and investigations explains it. At the time, it would have been terrifying for the people, so saying it was a punishment from god at the time, would make sense to people at that time.

@Papablue

I picked up the complete audio book collection read by @stephenfry last week.

@theweaselking @vivienhessel

Based on their attitude we could assume that the word Mormon is just a simple misspelling of the word Moron which would be far more descriptive.

Could be seen as offensive and insulting but no more so than their attitude towards relationships.

@zleap @theweaselking The thing is, the Bible probably doesn't say anything about homosexuality at all. The "clobber passages" that conservatives cite are pretty ambiguous in the original languages. The word "homosexuality" and the concept of sexual orientation as we understand it now didn't even exist when these texts were written.

Any scientists in aerospace engineering here who can comment on a study about a new kind of “space skin”?

We have to overthrow capitalism before we invent time travel because we can't ever let the rich be more in control of the past than they already are
