(And this is an incomplete list, obviously. Racism, anti-Semitism, cult-like conformity expected from one's political party/organization/etc., contempt for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses - hello, COVID denial -, deep distrust and hatred towards everything associated with what is considered to be "modern," i.e., "politically correct," "woke," etc. It is not subtle at all. This is fascism. And I'm tired of people telling me to overreact.

Shameful to see the College Board cave to the demands of DeSantis and white supremacists, especially as we kick off Black History Month. Just shameful.

@shenouda So if someone uses ChatGPT to write (even bad) malicious code, who then gets charged with the offense, the person asking ChatGPT to write it, OR the owners of ChatGPT, this is about accountability as before too long (and thanks to MS injecting millions in to this) it will get better and then be out of control, at which point there HAS to be accountability especially if people die as a result.

@Jaden2 growing up in hattiesburg, ms in the 70s & 80s, my school district was the subject of a desegregation decision by SCOTUS in 1986 i think. Its been decades and there are still parts of the south that are effectively segregated.

California police kill double amputee who was fleeing: ‘Scared for his life’
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jan/31/anthony-lowe-police-killing-amputee-huntington-park
Explain to me: what's the purpose of having a US #police force? How can it be possible that police shoots a man in a wheelchair with ten bullets? 🤦♂️
"To protect and to serve": Wasn't it a motto from #California? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_protect_and_to_serve
#USA is a failed country if you ask me.

@Freedom2B Libraries are a refuge for many people, esp in our current times, here in the UK hey are warm spaces, for people who are also struggling to heat homes etc.

Meanwhile, Ron DeSantis in Florida is not going to model legislation route. He is blazing a unique trail of unbridled fascism, including disenfranchisement of voters, takeover of state universities by hand-picked right wing cronies, including Christopher Rufo (the liar who started the critical race theory panic), banning of Black history, and the complete censorship of all non-curriculum reading material from every K-12 classroom in the state.

Astronomers say they have spotted the #universe’s first #stars
These long-sought “Population III” stars would have been ginormous balls of #hydrogen and #helium sculpted from the universe’s primordial gas.
"We exist, therefore we know there must have been a first generation of stars."

I need to watch the Beatles get back documentary at some point, however watching a few videos about this had George Harrison insist on Bringing in Billy Preston, a Black musician from Texas, to help record Get back. He had a huge smile on his face and looked really happy. What happened here is that his influence seem to galvanise the group to keep going with the project, so in a way he saved it from going off the rails. So did a black musician save the Beatles, perhaps. Great stuff, he had huge amounts of energy, but he was 22, so injected something really positive vibes.

Indeed, it is also useful to know about people,. as when talking to others about this contributors are important to look to. .
Thing about sports is people remember the BIG names, or those who win a superbowl ring or MVP and we forget about the fact it is a team sport.
@doctorjaymarie@mastodon.world
Thanks, I am also interested in just helping to promote this.
it s breaking out side of the bubbles of interest, so not just say looking at Black people with in the Space Programme or physics but those who did other things and knowing about MLK, is important.
