I'm pretty sure Mastodon is the first social network I've been on that didn't immediately ask me to betray all of the people in my address book.
They don't give a toss about anything climate related, the only way to stop them is going to have to be boycott or a massive civil lawsuit from the population.

Honestly, it's *really* hard to create a slow website when you actually use HTML and CSS.
Trying to create a demo site right now to illustrate how some DevTools performance tools can help speed it up, but unless I throw in a big framework in there, it's hard to make room for improvements.
Use HTML and CSS folks!

Lets hope they win, get the policy stopped, it will then have to be rolled out state and country wide as a lawsuit, unless one lawsuit can bring about nationwide change.

@SrRochardBunson those trans students aren’t gonna need their degrees bc they won’t have to work again after the lawsuits they are gonna file. Governors don’t have the right to your medical history
I am not sure what is more worrying the fact that fox has this much influence or that a whole political party is incapable of what seems to be basic fact checking. Not to mention a proportion of the US population that seem to absorb all this poor reporting as fine, and equally incapable of fact checking.
Cool, so a few questions on the pic
the red star to the right of the centre of the galaxy, is that a red giant? and to the far right of the picture there is something very bright indeed, anothr galaxy or is that a supernova as it looks brighter than the centre of the galaxy.

Does that depend on the felony, I can understand say shoplifting not being a serious enough felon. I was under the impression that if Trump is indited then he can be barred.
Watching Swordfish, Gabrial said that Thomas Jefferson once shot a man on the whitehouse lawn, not sure much about this, but given trumps Retoric recently if he was in charge that would certainly add new meaning to being fired.

I should include this on every abstract I write. #Science
That is cool, I wonder if the founders in 705 AD had any idea it would still be going in 2023.

I think in Scotland a verbal agreement is legally binding,
@TheOldGuy@newsie.social
They need to get on with this. I assume anyone without a criminal record (as in conviction) can run for president, at present Trump can just run again, if he is convicted I would assume someonme would say he can't legally run.
Not that it will stop Trump trying to fight that either through the courts (like a normal person) or as Trump isn't normal through the means such as protest / violence / direct action.
However given people are being hauled in to court and jailed for what happened on Jan 6th, this should prove a deterrent for a call to arms, well for rational people, most of his followers don't seem rational of course.
So please could someone oil the US cogs of justice and get on with it, if you're going to convict.
It is really nice that despite any tensions between the political side of different countries, the science community can just work together and achieve great things.

The discovery of this apparent dark galaxy comes from China's 500-meter-wide FAST radio observatory, the largest single-dish receiver in the world.

In the episode Cathexis (St Voyager Season 1) they come across a dark matter nebula
That is pretty cool, kinda strange but there are dark what look like dark patches in the sky where there is no light, so also puzzling to astronomers.

Chinese astronomers have found evidence of a "dark" galaxy: 98% dark matter, 2% hydrogen, and almost no stars at all.
It showed up in their radio telescope, but when they looked for the light from its stars they saw...nothing.

Transphobia in the media
This is why we have fedi, we can talk about what others may see as 'sensitive' topics
Those here may see that as intellectual discussions

Transphobia in the media
Look, I'm not saying anyone *should* throw a brick through the NYT's windows. It would obviously be morally wrong. But we should certainly be allowed to talk about it. Open debate is an important part of a free society!

Proposed bill would mean free period products at all Arizona schools https://www.tucsonsentinel.com/local/report/021623_period_products_schools/proposed-bill-would-mean-free-period-products-all-arizona-schools/
Democratic legislators are working to bring free period products to Arizona public middle and high schools, but detractors say those products are already offered to students free of charge — if they go to the nurse’s office and ask for them, and the school has a nurse.
