If all cars in the EU will be electric, we will need to produce 20-25% more electricity.

EU’s industry will also need much more natural materials by 2030.

Simply switching emissions from one sector to the other is not the answer.

Doing a little climate work in a non-majors environmental chemistry course and found this excellent NOAA tool. So great to show how the sausage is made and let people explore

I am still astounded at the amount of alleged leftists who still call me a hypocrite for supporting #Ukraine in the war. How is it in any way hypocritical to oppose tyranny?

Usually I am anti-war, because wars are typically used as tools to enforce tyranny, but opposing war is a far cry from opposing the right of a people to fight for their freedom and self-determination. Does anybody truly, honestly believe that a Ukrainian surrender would save lives?

I am not ignoring the fact that Ukraine had problems prior to the war, but can you really believe that it would get better if #Russia Balkanized the country into a handful of puppet governments to enforce the will of the #Putin regime?

I believe that supporting a free Ukraine is easily compatible with my beliefs as an anti-authoritarian. I genuinely cannot understand how anybody in the western world cannot support the war without it being a matter of optics and aesthetics.

Fighting for #Freedom has never and will never be pretty...

I mean, *maybe* Lemmy could be a test bed for community safety on the Fediverse.

There's a lot of tools that could be made to alleviate problems.

Sadly, with the Fediverse right now, there's not enough moderation tools for community safety.

America's insane right wing has been on a campaign to infect everyone with covid almost since the pandemic started. This legislation, to criminalize vaccinations, is a completely "logical" extension of that policy: https://www.ktvb.com/article/news/local/capitol-watch/idaho-lawmakers-introduce-legislation-to-criminalize-those-who-administer-covid-vaccines-legislature/277-2436a514-e7da-4b31-9762-f9be10300075

I'm done with hearing how "hard it will be" to prosecute Trump because he's a former POTUS. Hard why? Because suddenly the rule of law stops working in his presence?

That's horse shit!

They only thing standing between us and prosecuting Trump (and every single Republican co-conspirator) is us - and our news media's insistence that "both sides do it".

The choice isn't between political parties! It's between democracy and authoritarianism.

That is not a hard decision.

LGBT+ equality is not a privilege, it's a fundamental human right. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

It is incumbent on us all to fight for a society where everyone is empowered to live their life authentically without the fear of discrimination and oppression.

People on social media get all bent out of shape when other people don’t do exactly what they want to fulfill their narrow agenda. Everyone can’t constantly appease everyone else. Your agenda isn’t everyone else’s agenda. There’s so much going on all at once. Maybe people are just trying to live their lives?

Z-Library alternatives (we suggest copy-pasting [no credit!] to spread widely instead of just boosting)

#ZLibrary has been taken off the "aboveground" web, but there are several alternatives. Here's how to access them:

1. If you use the #Tor browser you can still access zlib with the link we've placed @ the end of this post.

2. #AnnasArchive searches several shadow libraries at once, including zlib, & gives multiple download links when available. https://annas-archive.org

3. #LibGen is 1 of zlib's main sources & still works as normal. The 2 main forks: https://library.lol & https://libgen.lc

4. #SciHub, which zlib got most of its papers from, is still up. https://sci-hub.se

There are many smaller alternatives if you can't find what you're looking for in any of the above, just ask around...

You need a (free) account to download directly. If you don't have one, you can make one with a throwaway email address (even better, share one with someone who has one).

Zuck is following Elon and announced premium verified accounts. It's kind of ironic that both of these social networks are havens for large-scale misinformation campaigns, and now you get to pay to appear more legit. #meta #twitter #misinformation
