That backdrop looks spectacular.

I am British, and in the UK, so we have our own laws on guns. However I accept you have the 2nd amendment, understand why that was included in the constitution. If I understand it was in case we brits decided to try and retake the USA after the revolutionary war of independance.

But that was in 1776 or after that, times have changed since then. But having visited Canada, seen some of the local wildlife (e.g Bears), then I can understand the need for guns in some cases. But the guns back the were nothing like what are available now. I sometimes wonder what the founding fathers, who wrote the 2nd amendment would make of all this senseless gun crime and mass shootings.

However, I fully agree with you on ensuring people are fit to own a gun. While back in 1776 anyone with a mental illness (even slight) was probably locked away somewhere, then this is clearly not accepted in 2023. People with all sorts of issues are in our society, medicine has advanced so medical conditions can be managed, even Dementia or Brain Cancer can cause people to act in ways that are out of character.

With driving you need to pass a test to ensure you are safe to drive, if you health deteriorates then this has to be declared, even if it means you are no longer medically fit to drive. So yeah proving you are able to handle a gun properly should be some requirement unless people think guns are like on computer games where you get a coloured cross hair thing that indicates friend of foe. Somehow I think not.

Unaddressed, this problem is going to be much worse in a decade than it is now, if you can even imagine that. The gun nut culture that has exploded in recent years is presently grooming their kids to be even worse versions of themselves.

Here we go again, another day another shooting, thoughts are of course with the victims but the American people really DO need to wake up and get a grip on all this surely.

I am not sure if we are 'on track' the recent winter saw an average temperature a good few degrees above what is considered average, I feel we have already tipped the balance.

Yeah, he has already suggested mass murder of some groups or at least from various reports here.

How much did the rest of the world know about the 'final solution' during World War 2 ? We know the true extent wasn't revealed until after. But were the allies aware of what was going on, just perhaps powerless to do anything meaningful to stop it.

If it was kept quiet then the chances of Trump being able to do this to me seems minimal, he can't keep his mouth shut long enough.

I also understand—and empathize—that people often have no choice and must use Twitter.

If the choice is between making rent and eviction, I get it.

But that’s not everyone. If you’re privileged enough to leave Twitter, it’s your duty to log off forever.

That’s how you can thwart the spread of Fascism.

Computers are useful tools, & using technology to reduce laborious & or unsafe work is prudent.

I agree with that,

I think it needs a fine balance, so we keep people employed, reduce risky work but are able to ensure everyone has an income either that we need a universal basic income to help.

I’ve written an open letter asking organisations that engage online with the blind community to come to Mastodon in light of the significant #accessibility regressions at Twitter.
If you agree, please sign it and share it as widely as you can. This is one occasion where if we can show how many of us care about this issue, it will make it clear that it’s worth companies putting in the effort to be here.
I would also be very grateful for the support of our sighted friends.
Thank you.

Flaws in systems don't get fixed by people who think they're great and should just be bigger.

They get fixed by people who listen to those who've noticed the flaws.

I quit back in November, if I make blog posts on the topic i t is to highlight what has happened (using reports / links on fedi

I can't TELL people to leave, I try and suggest people look at what is going on and see if that clashes with values they have. Or in some cases how what is going on, them staying on Twitter may impact their own reputation.

Granted some people may NEED to be there to report back, on the situation.

Ever since November, I’ve told everyone who would listen that continuing to use Twitter helps Fascism.

Certain people said that statement was “extremist and alienating”.

But now it turns out that Twitter is deliberately amplifying Russian propaganda. And Russia is, in fact, a Fascist regime.

It’s time you all realize the stakes of your social media use.
