Congratulations on your appointment and wish you all the best in this important role, more so in the current climate which appears (at least from my view in the UK) to be very hostile to the LGBTQI+ communities.

Russia is using bombers, missiles, submarines and ships to pummel every major city in Ukraine tonight!
Pray for Ukraine!
Air raid alert goes off in most of Ukraine, including Kyiv.
Earlier, the head of the Mykolaiv police Serhii Shaikhet reported that Russia may try to hit Ukraine with up to a hundred missiles.
Overnight on May 1, Ukraine's Presidential Office head Andrii Yermak urged citizens not to ignore air raid sirens

How a Human Smell Receptor Works Is Finally Revealed

Someone please remind ronnie, it is "all the best possible taste" a like from the late, great Kenny Everett alter ego "Cupid Stunt" which if rearranged would clearly be a more accurate description of DeSantis. :)
As it has been pointed out numerous times on here, Mastodon is just part of the wider fediverse. I can join mastodon, join misskey or any or multiple of a number of services, I am still on the Fediverse and can still interact with people here on Mastodon.
"I do believe people will gravitate here if they see it's fun to do so and that they can have a place here. "
I agree with you here, lets give it time, fediverse and mastodon have been around for years, but started to gain traction only a few months ago. Lets work to make the whole fediverse more attractive. Perhaps other services will pick up different groups of users, it does not really matter.
I like the fact then when I join a fediverse service, I am not subjected to an inquition on age, location, marital status, gender, racial backgroud. I like the interaction with people based on topic, interest to subject area. I find this is our strength.
Are there accurate stats on the racial background of users, if we are not asked for that info, and there is no AI to profile users, then we can co-exist as users.
Perhaps Chris T @atomicpoet can comment further on this.

Hey, folks! If you're looking for an LGBTQIA+ safe ham radio repeater network to connect to, check out our very own Pride Radio Network! Modes supported by our system include Allstar, Echolink, IRLP, DMR, YSF, Wires-X, P25, NXDN, D-STAR, M17, & Zello. Direct connections via USRP can also be provided. We also have a web transceiver too! We're also always looking for new repeater affiliates. More info can be found at https://prideradionetwork.weebly.com/
The world seems woefully unprepared for the prospect that a mutation in the bird flu virus could make it more transmittable (or should that me transmutable) to humans. I am not an expert but may be someone can comment on if my concerns are valid.
Putin takes revenge on those who speak out against him, either thery end up in prison, poisoned or some how end up falling to their death out of windows, or some similar sticky end.
I can understand this happening in Russia, the fact it is allowed to happen in the USA speaks volumes.
The British monarchy can trace back to 1066, well before we started to colonise other countries, so in that time and actually not many kings / queens it has witnesses so many changes.
I feel we should change the naming of the honors system
BEM or British Empire Medal
MBE or Member of the British Empire
et al
What was the Empire became the common wealth before I was born, so why not just have BCM - British commonwealth Medal, so just update the naming system.
We have renamed the Empire games to commonwealth games, so why not go one step further, I think King Charles III is wise enough to see the logic here.

Some more from the world of university student grading....
A lab report assignment where the use of generative AI is allowed with appropriate attribution. It’s a class of ~100 students.
Around half the class chose not to use genAI. Around a third cited their use of gen AI.
So about a third of the course have started to upskill and to use genAI in what I believe is a productive / useful way. And that is over a 10-week term – when we started, almost no one in the class had explored the use of genAI beyond ‘playing around over Christmas’.
I could also compare the cited use of genAI and that detected by an ‘AI writing detection model’, and I can confirm that it was sub-optimal.

It seems like it is early days yet, and I agree with the idea we move forward with caution, but make sure students are involved in the discussions, process discussions around using AI.

"The sooner we pry political power from the gnarled, old clutches of white culture, the better. The stone cold truth is a huge chunk of white America has no use for democracy and never did. From their white perspective, every election is a crap shoot where white people could lose political power. The fix? Either shit-can elections or control who gets to vote. That way you will always remain in power.
That's America 1.0 for ya!
America 2.0 is completely different. E Pluribus Unum (diversity) powers it. Keeps it simmering with youthful urgency and drive. America 2.0's goal is to level the playing field so that literally every America stepping onto it has the same shot at The American Dream as every other American. America 2.0 is the rising tide lifting every last boat!"
I am guessing Ann Arbor is a place, I had initial visions of a person being covered in flyers.
But good on you for doing this.

"Jackson is graduating this year so we made sure that his last week would be extra memorable for him by flyering all over campus and Ann Arbor, especially areas that other Ross students and parents visiting for graduation would see. His involvement in a fascist organization and his racist vandalism of the Ypsilanti Black Lives Matter mural deserve to be known by his classmates, friends, and family."

@ScienceMagazine that's pretty impressive - for all the incredible advances in technology to help manage Type 1 Diabetes, this kind of approach - islet cell transplantation - has the potential to supersede any tech solution. #medicine #MedMastodon #diabetes #t1d #insulin #transplantation
I will boost as there are a few people on here who do podcasts, such as Christopher Lemmer Webber (IIRC Foss and Crafts) but there are a few others, they may be able to give you a boost.
