Meta is not gonna buy Mastodon or any server, this is based on absolutely nothing and untrue.

Yes, some of us indeed got contacted by Meta/Insta because they are working on a new social platform (this was in the news) and they are looking into joining the Fediverse (Mark Zuckerberg also told this in the recent podcast)

SO.

This contact was about a "heads-up" for a potential big platform to join the network and not for a "take over".

Dr. Peter Hotez, professor of pediatrics and molecular virology and microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine has been attacked all weekend by Musk and Rogan on the bird site. Dr Hotez is a vaccine scientist and a threat to disinformation con artists like the two twits mentioned above. He will have a new book out soon and it is important to spread his book title message far and wide.

But this is inevitable. It’s written into the design of ActivityPub.

It could be delayed using social pressure but I’m not seeing that from those from whom it would matter.

So it’ll last for as long as it does. Hopefully, that’ll be long enough so we can use the fediverse to bridge off to actually decentralised alternatives like the Small Web.

(I know I’m working against a deadline here. I just wish we’d do everything we could to keep the fediverse as a stopgap for as long as possible.)

As a British person I learned some US history at school. It was mostly limited to slavery, the Great Depression, and then the civil rights movement. It was shocking to find out how late civil rights were. But it was also (this was the 90s) presented as if civil rights were "done". Thanks to people online over the years, and from 100s of random Americans coast-to-coast IRL in 2014, I've been able to learn far more about the long historic threads driving current US white supremacy.

Mocking them for what is constantly trumpeted as the ethical way to run a business is pretty crass if you ask me

@zleap At the end of the day though, as Star Trek occasionally investigates, language is often more about understanding each other than precision and rules. Do you know what is meant by "to boldly (proudly) go ... (where no one has gone before)"? Of course. Then grammatical precision shouldn't really matter so much.
