New study gave $7,500 to 50 unhoused people.

Guess what?

"They did not spend more money on alcohol or drugs, contrary to what people believe, and instead they spent the money on rent, food, housing, transit, furniture, a used car, clothes. It's entirely the opposite of what people think they're going to do with the money."

Congrats to my UBC colleague Jiaying Zhao on this study.

I guess it's time to put "Moms for Liberty" on the terrorist organization list.

Seriously, how hateful do you have to be to issue bomb threats to a library?

@split when I was in high school, several math websites were blocked for "prohibited educational content" and if that doesn't perfectly describe the US education system :blobfoxlaugh:

is this nonsense going to actually happen? Or it is two people with big mouths, and even bigger egos just gonna talk about it.

My cousin was a 29 year veteran of Houston Independent School District, the last 15 as a beloved principal. She resigned from her job after the announcement of the unreal standards by which unqualified state observers will be judging HISD teachers during daily classroom incursions.

She loves her school, staff and students but refuses to be complicit in Greg Abbott’s efforts to destroy public education in America’s 4th largest city.

Human skin's sensory neurons produce a protein called RGMB that stimulates the cells responsible for skin colour. This could lead to new treatments for pigmentation disorders. A novel sequencing technique was also used to study gene expression and function in taste cells. #skin #sensoryneurons #pigmentation sciencedaily.com/releases/2022

I thought it was a Mr Blobby Toy, for those who don't know who Mr Blobby was, he was a character on British TV show, Noels House party,.

A guy dressed up in a pink suit with yellow circles.

Mastodon migration needs a bit of work to be sure. But even in its incomplete form, it's something that doesn't exist outside the Fediverse.

I think list import is in v4.2, getting there slow but sure...

Knowing the figures is going to put a lot of people in Russia at risk, of retaliation by Putins regeme.

If he was behind the Wagner plane crash it shows he will stop at nothing to exact revenge and assert authority.

@zleap @knittingknots2 My understanding is that many Russians have already defected to Ukraine. We don't have exact numbers at the moment, and I'm not sure we'd want them right now.

After the initial 2015-16 UK competition the challenge was continued by the European Space Agency in collaboration with @Raspberry_Pi and participation was expanded to all member states of ESA. This whole thing about nuclear trains reminds me of something I got caught up in a while ago. I'm a Trekkie, and I ran across a diagram of a starbase, with dimensions (based on size in relationship to ship, etc.). I started a spreadsheet, it got more and more complex.
Those things are HUGE. 2,000 acres of parkland. Hundreds of millions of square feet in deck space. Nominal population of over 2,000,000 people, and that's with low population density. I still have it, somewhere.
