I think this is good as is one area that both Jews and Muslims can agree on, cease fire now and aid etc in.
Ceasefire Now! Rashida Tlaib, Naomi Klein Join Thousands in Jewish-Led D.C. Protest Against Gaza War http://www.democracynow.org/2023/10/19/rashida_tlaib_naomi_klein_dc_rally?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon
For those working in child protection / safeguarding I see potential issues here, as they hold on to some very sensitive / confidential information that cannot be shared or should never be accessed by people who are not cleared to do so.

Scientists can't win in this argument. If they say there's no time left to avoid disaster, they excuse fatalism. If they say there's time left, they excuse procrastination. If they say they are certain of their conclusions, they are attacked for being bad scientists. If they say they are not certain, they are ignored because people want certainty.
Science has done all it can to warn us. Now it's up to the people.
Good riddance to X and Musk to that matter, when people complain we should drop a hint that the platform was a cesspit of hate, and mis information, and give them info on the fediverse.
@pete @unnameduser @zleap This is interesting although my own view is the interpretation of 21 ‘full democracies’ (covering just 6.4% of the global population) is a generous interpretation - https://www.visualcapitalist.com/mapped-the-state-of-global-democracy-2022/
@therightarticle @pete @unnameduser
Also interesting how many former colonial nations don't have much in the way of democracies and yet the countries who colonised them have maintained their democracies.
Just shows how fragile democracy is, many western countries are balanced on the border of democracy and on the other side far right extremism,
Hiya!
In late September, I was voted in as President of the Science Journalists Association of Australia.
I'm taking over from the masterful, indefatigable, legendary, delightful Founding President Bianca Nogrady.
Bianca -- and all the founders and committee members over the years -- have done such an incredible job at building a community of science journalists since kicking this all off in 2019. I'm delighted she tapped me to carry the fire for SJAA through its next phase.
I have some big goals. I want to see science journalism in this country thrive by giving opportunities to young writers, creating pathways for people to make this amazing career their full-time job, helping improve the quality of an already outstanding field in this specialist beat in Oz and just building on that sense of community.
If you're a science journalist in Australia and you want to join up, you can sign up as a member at https://sjaa.org.au/
Stop using #Mailchimp.
Mailchimp (a proprietary mailing list and customer CMS platform) has updated its terms of service.
Mailchimp is planning to feed your email content and customer contacts into its AI models.
Mailchimp's email generating AI might spit out content that infringements on another person's copyright. And the new Mailchimp terms of service say you are legally liable for that copyright infringement, not them.
See section 30. Generative AI Features: https://mailchimp.com/legal/terms/preview/
So what should people use instead ? If we can promote alternatives that are easy to use (and i mean easy for non techy people) we will get more uptake.
Explains a lot that,
During an interview I saw today, Ex-Israeli PM Naftali Bennett, when asked about what will happen to innocent people on life support or babies in incubators because Israel cut the power to Gaza, replied that he didn't care because Palestinians are "Nazis."
I shit you not.
What I'd like to ask Mr. Bennett is if he's looked in a mirror lately
I agree.
If Never Again means we won't stand idle while a genocide is happening, then never again means free Palestine.
If Never Again means we won't tolerate people being put in concentration camps on account of their ethnicity, them never again means free Palestine, as Gaza is "a mass open air prison", a mass concentration camp.
If Never Again means we won't stand by while a military power butchers a people without a State and without an army, then never again means free Palestine.
@libreoffice
Is it possible to add a caption to an image inserted in to a Libreoffice 7.3 draw document please.
I can't find an option for this
I did find instructions that said select graphic then do insert -> caption but this option isn't there.
Searched through right click on graphic - edit style and still can't find anything
Thanks
Well if the ICC succeed it will wipe the arrogant smirk off Sunaks face at least.
@zleap That was mentioned in the Lesley Riddoch podcast this week. And Crispin Blunt (Tory MP for Reigate with a long interest in I-P) has warned Sunak etc that this is possible for them too (he was promptly slapped down for that, of course).
Interested in Technology, Science, Chemistry, Education, Fediverse, GNU/Linux and free software.
