#OTD in 1938. Orson Welles broadcasts a radio adaptation of H. G. Wells's The War of the Worlds, which caused some listeners to believe that a Martian invasion was in fact occurring, resulting in a massive panic in some of the audience in the US.

Can I just ask: How in the name of everything unholy has there been no international press coverage of the UK's efforts to intern asylum seekers on what is, by any reasonable definition, prison barges!?

@MartinVeart @zleap @Rhodium103 @drskyskull Chomsky has certainly called out the US and Israel in the past. What worries me is the way in which he has bought into nonsense and disinformation, esp where it comes to Syria and Russia's involvement there. There has been a whole coterie of people who claim to be independent observers or even journalists who have been very active in denying Russian/Syrian warcrimes, blinded by the disasters in Iraq and elsewhere previously. It's sad to watch.
