Don't Pass Me By, - White Album I think (or The Beatles )

@scientist @zleap I'd argue that the fundamental mechanics of capitalism are fundamentally incompatible with democracy and lead to an economic system that works in the interest of the capital owning minority.

A truly democratic system cannot be based on capitalism because democracy necessitates collective ownership of resources and the means of production.

That may be a good idea after the next mass shooting in the US.

What is the point in having a supreme court if you are just going to ignore it

Please could our MPs review British Values, one of which is RULE OF LAW,

Repeating the same failed policies wont do anyone any good, and will put more lives at risk.

@Independent

is this really such a big deal, how many times have people written the previous year post Jan 1, after all on Jan 1 2024, we will have spent 365 days in 2023, so writing 2023 or 23 as part of the date.

He is human, makes mistakes, important thing is how you deal with making mistakes.

There are two interesting planetary transits taking place today. Mars will make a quincunx to the north node at 1:37 PM EST. Later on, the sun will make a quincunx to the north node at 11:25 PM EST. Adjust the timing to your local time zone.

Excellent article and expose of what is going on behind the flashy front end of closed source software.

If you are a mathematician and you are reading this (and you're interested in responding), can you tell me a little bit about the maths you do, in a way that a ten year old could understand? If not, what age/level of mathematical understanding do you think someone would need in order to get a sense of what you do?

Good grief, when is our government going to get a grip on all this.

We need a general election NOW

We failed the people of Myanmar too.

Amnesty International investigated five instances of IDF attacks on civilians, which they note barely scratches the surface of the total cases. They found the mass murder of entire families, absent or unclear evacuation orders, attacks against evacuation sites, and an absence of any evidence from the IDF that these attacks had any military value, much less proportional value.

Indeed, especially as those that did move south were also bombed, didn't have access to food, power, medical, water and other essentials.

Those who could not., e.g babies in ICU, incubators etc would not be able to 'just'; leave and Israel were told this.

Amnesty International further notes that the leaflets the IDF dropped on Gaza included the following warning:

“…anyone who chooses not to leave from the north of the [Gaza] Strip to south of Wadi Gaza may be determined an accomplice in a terrorist organization.”

Amnesty International points out that these leaflets could not be considered effective warning and “may amount to the war crime of collective punishment for holding hundreds of thousands of civilians responsible for acts they did not commit, based solely on the fact that they are staying in their homes when they have nowhere safe to go amid a relentless campaign of Israeli bombardment across the entire Gaza Strip.”
