The problem isn't we need more people to produce more Einsteins or Mozart's.

The problem is we don't nurture and protect the ones we have.

As Stephen Jay Gould wrote in The Panda's Thumb: "I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops"

@jemmesedi @Npars01 Home Depot has had unacceptable management political philosophy for far too long. Unfortunately they’ve not suffered enough consequences. Partially due to brand exclusivity among box stores. Oligopoly control hurts employees & consumers.

Unfortunately there are many more - Amazon, etc

Free Markets are not Fair Markets without regulation.

@petergleick 100% Just as an example of not nurturing the people we have, if Stephen Hawking had been born disabled instead of becoming disabled once already ensconced in university, higher ed would have done all it could to make it impossible for him to enter research. Higher ed is preventing disabled people from being admitted and driving out those that managed to get in.

And it's that much harder for those who are marginalized in ways in addition to disability. archive.org/details/disability #UCAccessNow #Ableism

But we then need to convince people to use them. I am here, on Peertube and have a WriteFreely blog

@rossaverde

The 3 they killed today were unarmed and had a makeshift white flag (BBC news) there is NO excuse for shooting them.

There are rules of engagement.

@rossaverde

If they have just killed 3 hostages and Hamas have claimed the IDF have also killed many more, it is a matter of time before Netenyahu is OUT.

Putin will not stop unless he dies or is made to stop. That is a fact. This article from a normally "conservative" member of USA media warns of that. We and our allies MUST stand with Ukraine because if it falls, it will just be even more expensive and time consuming not to mention bloody to beat him back. He will not stop. bloomberg.com/opinion/articles #Ukraine #Putin #supportUkraine #USA #allies

@MamasPinkyToe

If Understand American English correctly, then a loony is a 1 cent piece.

If you say loony bin in the UK, I think it used to mean psychiatric ward.

So you have a Rolex to tell the time. My watch can also tell the time.

Can your Rolex do this?

I was autistic when I was a kid and everyone called me “quirky”

I was autistic when I was an “awkward” teen

I was autistic when a psychiatrist misdiagnosed me and said I wasn’t autistic

I was autistic when I got a second opinion that confirmed I’m autistic

Self diagnosis is valid 💜

If there are SQL databases, it stands to reason that there can also be PreQL databases—also Reboot databases and Remake databases. 🤔
