since a lot of folks are becoming newly interested in escaping corporate silos and moving to community-based services, are you aware of @matrix?
Matrix is to Slack and Discord, what Mastodon is to Twitter: a decentralized, federated network based on open standards/specs. It also supports full end-to-end encryption, just like Signal, so you can exchange messages privately!
If you find the fediverse interesting/inspiring, I recommend giving matrix a whirl. The quickest way to get started is to head over to https://app.element.io/ and make a (free!) account (although you can also join any number of other home servers, or host your own--they all talk to each other!).
If you _do_ end up checking it out, please do say hi! I'm @zkat:zkat.tech over there. I also manage a "space" (a group of channels, kinda like a Discord server) that you can join by clicking here: https://matrix.to/#/!tKdDSgQTxQzcOuTXqV:matrix.org?via=zkat.tech&via=matrix.org&via=envs.net
I hope this sparks your interest! I'd love to see you over there, too!
I've been on this site for a few days now and what I'm discovering is that this is not Twitter or Twitter-Lite or Alternative Twitter. It may look and operate a little like Twitter but there's a different ethos, character and atmosphere here and I think it will be important for people coming from Twitter to understand this. You don't go into a stranger's house and start criticising or trying to change the way they do things. You behave politely and try to fit in. I, for one, will be treading carefully until I get the hang of it.
@zleap @Flightlessbird Hello - following back. And now that I’ve seen that Mastodon uses hashtags, too, I’ll add #FBPE to my profile.
Mobilizon v3 is out today!
With a federated search engine for events and groups, many sorting options, map view, a new home page...
Infos in our blogpost https://framablog.org/2022/11/08/mobilizon-v3-find-events-and-groups-throughout-the-fediverse/
If you download your Twitter archive it arrives wrapped as a static HTML page, which is not very useful for doing anything with, and worse: it requires the original account to be still active to do useful things like enlarge the images since they use t.co links.
So here's a Python script to convert a Twitter archive to markdown or other formats: https://github.com/timhutton/twitter-archive-parser
Now you can archive your tweets in any way you want.

@zleap Ahh very cool, I love LaTeX but have not tried Overleaf
@zleap I've found it very convenient for my current limited usage of LaTeX, not having to keep installing the whole pack in every machine and nice for collaboration.
My new Mastodon app ‘Mammoth’ is now ready to beta test.
If you’ve found that all the Mastodon apps out there currently haven’t been great, you’re in luck. 😏
Migrated from Twitter to Mastodon but finding it hard to find the folks you used to follow?
Fedifinder can help. https://fedifinder.glitch.me
Cool tool for finding your old Twitter buddies that have moved to Mastodon (and what you can do on your Twitter account to help others find you here)
Please reblog/boost to spread the word. (Liking/Favouriting won’t help)
