For those who don't know, Bookwyrm is basically a better, federated Goodreads. Because it speaks ActivityPub, you can subscribe to someone's Bookwyrm feed from directly in Mastodon and see the book reviews they post!

https://joinbookwyrm.com/

Also there are 2 spots remaining in the Bookwyrm patreon to pay $40/mo and support the project in a huge way *and* have @tripofmice run a server for you and 50 of your bookwormiest friends: https://www.patreon.com/bookwyrm

@zleap Think you have a grace period to reactivate your account. It'll haunt you! The only way now is to dismantle all of your technology so that it can never be recovered- don't forget the phone, two factor security 👀

I’m boldly going where I haven’t gone before, which is right here at this site. Apparently this is a “toot.” I would appreciate a follow!

I wonder if we can get https://runyourown.social/ to be the next banned url on twitter

Another reason for newspapers, profession/trade organizations, and other well-funded institutions to run servers is to share the load in a federated/distributed ecosystem. The burden--work, cost, risk, liability, responsibility--of this federated conversation we're having right now falls mostly on *volunteers.* Newspapers, magazines, unions, and others need to do their share for their constituents benefit. Besides, newspapers should be fostering conversation as mission.

Hello all #admins! I'm rolling out my own instance soon but having struggles since Mastodon implements its own reverse proxy from the same server, resulting in multiple redirects.

My plan is to move the reverse proxy parts from nginx to my own service where I host all other proxies. This is an Apache because yay.

Question is, does anyone else have the same setup and have a conf ready?

So clarify:
[INTERNET] -> [REVERSE PROXY] -> [INTERNAL MASTODON]

hlp plz

The EU has the firepower to bring Twitter to heel.

But a lack of willingness to act quickly has so far hamstrung the bloc's enforcement role when it comes to holding Elon Musk to Europe's standards, according to eight EU and national government officials

This is the famous Orion Nebula, an amazingly bright and complex cloud of dust and gas, located - you guessed it - in the constellation Orion. It's location can easily be seen by the naked eye, the sword of Orion. Taken with a camera and telescope last winter.

"If you work from home or run a business, Nextcloud, and its app integrations, provide almost everything you need to opt out of big tech entirely." Not only do you get a private cloud storage server but a bunch of excellent apps for all purposes!"

@aetiology Absolutely right — advocating against safe, effective vaccines is advocating for earlier death, a shorter human lifespan, and — most horrifically — increased deaths of children. It is important to state this clearly and to repeat it as needed.

Vaccines are simply the most important scientific advance in biomedicine since 1900.

Stuffing? Already? The Fall *Bulletins* have arrived in print, and we have volunteers at our Boston office assisting with stuffing envelopes that go to free software supporters worldwide. If you are able to help out today or tomorrow, there's still time: https://u.fsf.org/3v6
