As we approach the end of #cop27, my view is that:

“We will all regret not acting sooner and faster on reducing emissions. We are already feeling the consequences of previous delays through more extreme weather events, and future generations will not understand why we did not act earlier to limit the consequences.”

Mind you, I have usenet archives going back to 1984 at least....on floppies....

Fission and impact, simply explained.

“Why bother talking about moons? They're just boring lumps of rock.”

Not so! Moons are sources of great interest to anybody who's interested in space, and continually challenge the way scientists and astronomers think.

So it seems joinmastodon removed QOTO from their directory without cause, without contacting us, and without any discussion or due diligence.

Since this is the only way to actually find QOTO for new users if it isnt reversed soon it could mean the end for our wonderful community.

If you care about this place remaining fair, respectful, and inclusive environment I highly suggest everyone reach out to them annd voice your objecttion and your disapointment and having no procedure to keep this fair and inclusive.

If you want to see QOTO stick around you can email your objecttion here:

hello@joinmastodon.org

Feel free to CC me here: jeffrey.freeman@qoto.org

Please be respectful, we want to show them we are the good guys and not give them any reason to object.

Delighted to start on Mastodon by announcing an exciting collaborative project with @AnneCharmantier and Association Cohab (cohabitation-homme-animal.com/)!

We will be testing #bird nestboxes of the future in the cities of #Warsaw and #Montpellier.

The aim of the project is to develop nestboxes that are more resilient to heat waves - an urgent priority in the face of #climatechange and #urban heat island effects.

@zleap : It does help, Paul.

I love getting teachers to articulate the things that students ARE good at. That is an important reminder: Your kids may not be where you want them to be, but they have the potential to learn --- and here's proof.

Thanks for that share.

Great scientific discussion from UK's @davidlrobertson and @stuartjdneil explaining why all #SARS-CoV-2 evidence points to an ordinary #zoonotic explanation for its #origin.

Also, Scottish accent just has a certain flair when explaining #science 😂

Frankly I don't think we should care about brands in order to enable some arbitrary measure of "growth". I want this place to stay human-focused and empathetic, and allowing brands a space to advertise or the power to mold this place will take it in the wrong direction.

@plugusin observe your peers. Ask them to let you come to some of their classes. Take notes and ask questions after it.

#Mastodon features that #Twitter doesn’t have:

* Temporary muting (e.g. for a day)
* Self-verified URLs in the profile
* Hiding spoilers etc. via content warnings
* URLs must start with protocols (fewer false positives, e.g. in code).
* Everyone can edit posts (in v4+).
* No ads (which doesn’t come for free = donate if you can afford it)

More obscure: I like that you can search for post URLs to “transfer” them between accounts.
