Random chat on the library van with my neighbour who loves sprouts. She has lots of model sprouts but not a felt one. So I made her one. #Art #FibreArt #Silly #Fun

Before he was an astronaut, Neil Armstrong was a @nasa test pilot, testing research planes including the X-15. Milt Thompson called him "the most technically capable of the early X-15 pilots." On the last of his 7 X-15 flights in July 1962 he reached Mach 5.74.

An invoice catch-up day for recent book #indexing jobs on:
– early American literature in British print
– the British adult film industry
– orchestral conductors and
– information management from prehistory to present.
All great books to read and different challenges to #index. And that’s why I still love being an indexer. ❣️

The unprecedented experiment explores the possibility that space-time somehow emerges from quantum information, even as the work’s interpretation remains disputed.

It’s already December on this side of the date line! Wishing everyone an ArtFul month!

Here’s one I took last year. In photography it’s all in the preparation, right? I’d set up my view camera, adjusted, metered, adjusted again, and waited for the decisive moment. And when I looked behind me I saw this… it’s my favourite phone photo 😁

Can confirm that @b_j_griffiths gives a great talk on oscillations and memory. He's done some lovely work with combined EEG/fMRI, MEG, and intracranial recordings providing clear insight into the roles of theta, alpha/beta, and gamma during encoding and retrieval.

As it happens this last couple of days I've attended student presentations. In one case the topic is "the language of science" where #students present projects about #science topics important for society. They come up with board games, scorebooks, youtube films, and more amazing stuff, trying to improve the world. Plus, this course is taught jointly between my university in Bordeaux and UF Santa Catarina, in Brazil, which is already awesome.
The other one is an advanced Genetics course at...1/2

Do you have any accounts on here you would recommend that are based in Asia, Africa or South America?

At the moment Fediverse is very much Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand.

Would be nice to get people from the rest of the world noticed on here!

New potatoes in November? Why not! Had a bag of spuds sprouted, shoved them in some grow bags and I have enough for a quick potato salad 🍠🥔🍠

Less than 20% of autistic adults are in full-time employment. Many of us drop out of the workforce after just a few years. Why is that?

@jaz Thank you! I'm using a filter for politics because I like to be able to decide whether I read it or not, depending on how I'm feeling. It's not that I'm not interested in politics but I don't want political arguments thrust upon me when what I want is a quiet conversation.
