I can’t get over $TSLA losing over half its value in 3 months because of its CEO’s side hustle to buy Twitter.

There’s been no material negative news about the company. Just a realization that his reputation is overhyped and investors are now fleeing.

The stock market is vibes.

Excited for an #introduction 👋!

📝 We are Penn NeuroKnow, a #neuroscience blog run by PhD students in the University of Pennsylvania’s Neuroscience Graduate Group.

👩‍🔬 👨‍🔬 Our goal is to share our love of neuroscience with you all. Each post breaks down a different topic in neuroscience, ranging from general neuroscience knowledge to summaries of exciting new studies that are changing how we think about the brain.

🧠 Recent topics have included why we get the hiccups, how the octopus controls its arms, and how neuroscientists are starting to realize that what they thought was noise might not actually be so noisy.

⏰ We’ll be sharing links to our latest posts with short summaries every Tuesday when they go live. We’re looking forward to sharing our posts and engaging with the community here!

🧠 To end 2022 we asked our writers what got them excited about neuroscience this year. Their answers ranged from new discoveries that are changing how we think about the brain and curing brain diseases to the papers that inspired their own thesis work.

❓ Now we want to hear from you! What got you excited about neuroscience this year?

There are so many stories and so many dreams. But with this recent ban on university education, the dreams will shatter and the stories will remain untold.
It’s such a shame that the clear saying of Propnet Muhammad (pbuh) about seeking knowledge being obligatory for every Muslim male and Muslim female, has clearly no effect on the Taliban.

And then Afghanistan’s very own Rabia Balkhi (9th century), who is considered the first woman to write poems in modern Persian and was well known for her beautiful verses.

Several Afghan elementary, and high schools are named after Mehri Herawi, a female poet of the 14th century. Similarly queen and political figure Gawharshad Begum of the same era who was instrumental in recognizing women for their scholarship.

Maryam Al-Ijliya (d.967) an astrolabe (an ancient device to measure time and the position of sun) maker in Northern Syria whose innovative designs were recognized by the city’s ruler.

Moreover, Fatimah al-Fihri, an African Muslim woman queen, established the world’s oldest & longest running university?

Centuries before Harvard or Oxford, she established Al-Quariune in Morocco.

Taliban meanwhile tried to kill young @Malala for her ‘crime’ of education.

AlQuariune is the university where Muslim and non-Muslim scholars such as Ibn Rushd, Jewish philosopher Maimonides, and Pope Sylvester II, studied.

As a Muslim woman, I am appalled at these atrocities against women and that too in the name of Islam. Let me tell you about the guarantees Islam makes for women, and you’ll see how Taliban the so called defenders of Islam have no idea what Islam actually teaches.

Chemist and educator St. Elmo Brady was born #OTD in 1884. He was the first Black American to receive a PhD in Chemistry (University of Illinois, 1916).

Brady worked on organic acids, IR spectroscopy, and halogen compounds, and significantly expanded chem programs at four HBCUs.

I am loving the fact that there are enough people on Mastodon these days that I feel like I can scan my Home feed and get enough news and other info… that I don’t feel the NEED to go over to birdsite and check there.

That’s a change!

In a VERY good way! 🎉

FOSS teams keep on giving! darktable 4.2 is out, here is my quick review of the most interesting changes:

Hey there neighborhood! I'm a geochemist looking to escape the Twitter hellscape. Happy to be here.

Aside from geology, I have a general interest in science and technology. I'm also big into heavy metal music, playing bass guitar, and brewing/drinking beer.

Have a follow if any of those things interest you!

For freely available online textbooks on a variety of courses, LibreTexts is a great resource, especially to begin exploring a subject.

They're mostly accessible to non-specialists and have many advanced features: https://libretexts.org/advanced.html

I am #LookingForWork. Unfortunately, I joined the ranks of those affected by #TechLayoffs last week, very suddenly and unexpectedly.

I'm a #SoftwareEngineer with over 20 years experience in the industry. I've worked primarily with #PHP, #JavaScript, and #TypeScript, but can also handle #Python and #Java in a pinch. I also have some experience with #AWS, #Docker, and #Terraform.

My resume is here: https://github.com/elazar/resume

Boosts and leads are much appreciated.
