Lots of people would just build their own silo of data that they can keep locked up for themselves. Some people would add things to Google Maps without fully understanding that that means Google takes control and ownership. Or some would do the same with Ordnance Survey data. But I want to use something with a genuinely open licence and a big community so that even if OSM disappeared tomorrow, all the existing map data would still be available.

Is there no end to Elon Musks contempt for other people sacking employees then tweeting
As staff learned of their fate, Mr Musk tweeted: "Hope you have a good Sunday. First day of the rest of your life."
Hundreds of Russian volunteers did not agree with the Putin regime and decided to fight shoulder to shoulder with the Ukrainians, joining the Freedom of Russia Legion
During this year, the unit has changed: starting to fight with only AK-74s in their hands, now they have Humvees, 120th mortars, Javelins, Stingers, and many other "interesting" things

Earlier this week, the famous White Nationalist Donald Trump went to East Palestine OH to Jin up anger from his white trash followers.
He came bearing gifts - with crates of bottled "Trump water". He bought first responders lunch at McDonald's.
He told the few who attended that they were white people, so of course Biden was ignoring them. We thought we heard MTG yelling "civil war" in the background.
It was Trump who removed rail regulations in 2017 that may have prevented the accident
Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes claimed anti-conservative political persecution when he landed on the #TSA no-fly list.
Turns out he ended up under additional scrutiny when, two days before the Jan6 insurrection, he openly threatened on his podcast to wait in an airport parking lot to assault a specific flight attendant who'd asked him to wear a mask on a flight.

@zleap You don't see any Democrats like that. The party vets them. Same with Republicans. The Republicans thought these guys were ok

Rebuilding Ukrainian science can’t wait — here’s how to start
@Mrfunkedude
I'm dealing with the dumpster fire my career has become. As my co-worker transitions towards retirement, I'm now the clearinghouse for all problems. I plan on asking for a big raise at my review in April!
Have a good morning Mr. Dude and friends! Keep it funky. 🤪
@zleap I like that we can see all the different measurements that go into the CIE separately and how each impacts it. CIE is a mix of measurements, a tasty data sausage

"There is now a golden opportunity for every scholarly society to implement a Mastodon instance for anyone interested in their field. If the academic community can create a public resource protected from private interests, it could become a model for bringing the remaining scholarly record — encompassing text, data and code — into the Fediverse."

If all cars in the EU will be electric, we will need to produce 20-25% more electricity.
EU’s industry will also need much more natural materials by 2030.
Simply switching emissions from one sector to the other is not the answer.

I am still astounded at the amount of alleged leftists who still call me a hypocrite for supporting #Ukraine in the war. How is it in any way hypocritical to oppose tyranny?
Usually I am anti-war, because wars are typically used as tools to enforce tyranny, but opposing war is a far cry from opposing the right of a people to fight for their freedom and self-determination. Does anybody truly, honestly believe that a Ukrainian surrender would save lives?
I am not ignoring the fact that Ukraine had problems prior to the war, but can you really believe that it would get better if #Russia Balkanized the country into a handful of puppet governments to enforce the will of the #Putin regime?
I believe that supporting a free Ukraine is easily compatible with my beliefs as an anti-authoritarian. I genuinely cannot understand how anybody in the western world cannot support the war without it being a matter of optics and aesthetics.
Fighting for #Freedom has never and will never be pretty...
