Tired of headlines like this, so I'm answering the question myself.

Will the Fediverse survive if Meta joins it?

Yes! Absolutely -- and no other answer is worth considering.

But let's consider the alternative: if the Fediverse can't survive one big company joining the fray, it doesn't deserve to survive at all.

Thankfully, that's not the case.

Hundreds of developers feel very passionately about the Fediverse's continued existence. It won't just survive, but thrive too.

Our main March episode 'The Universe is Broken. Again' is still available to download. Weird #JWST findings, #blackholes, #ISS shenanigans and even Fred Hoyle gets a mention!

The fact that Americans are risking their lives traveling to a region of Mexico controlled by cartels in order to obtain healthcare says a lot more about the USA than it does about Mexico.

@fedimedia Any ideas on how to find people who want to write articles about the fediverse, either as volunteers or paid freelancers?

Snapchat's AI chatbot is the creepiest one yet!

Aza Raskin posed as a 13-year-old girl on Snapchat and had this conversation with the AI chatbot.

This is the unsettling advice that it gave.

Georgia election fraud grand jury: “Said one juror: “I tell my wife if every person in America knew every single word of information we knew, this country would not be divided as it is right now.”
The grand jurors said they understand why the public release of their full final report needs to wait until [D.A.] Willis makes indictment decisions.
“A lot’s gonna come out sooner or later,” one of the jurors said. “And it’s gonna be massive.”

4. How we define reproducibility determines the results we observe in replications. Our surprise at “failed” replication results or delight in “successful” ones may not be warranted and the observed results could be an artifact of our definitions.

5. An experiment that is completely open in all elements does not necessarily lead to reproducible results and an experiment that does not open its data does not necessarily hinder replication experiments.

3. We gotta to the groundwork instead of chasing reproducibility. Even if some form of a perfect experiment that captures ground truth and its exact replications exist, it might take many epistemic iterations of theoretical, methodological and empirical research to achieve them. We cannot expect to skip the arduous iterative process of doing science and hope to arrive at a non-trivially reproducible science with procedural interventions

Some takeaways:

1. Theoretically it is not possible to justify a desired level of reproducibility rate in a field and to reach high reproducibility rate via eliminating malpractice, requiring open procedures/data, or performing replications.

2. 2. Judgments of reproducibility cannot exclusively be used to make valid inference on the truth value of a given result. True reproducibility rate of a result and the variability in its estimator are determined by many factors, not just the "truth".

The Discovery of a Hot Neptune That Shouldn't Exist

The first exoplanet ever found around a sun-like star was a hot-jupiter. Since then, astronomers have discovered dozens more like this. But smaller, hot-neptunes are exceptionally rare. Models predict that the high-energy radiation coming from the star should strip away its gas envelope, leaving a solid rocky core behind. But there are always exceptions. Astronomers have found a planet six times the size of Earth orbiting a red giant star every 4.2 days. It should have been stripped billions of years ago.

Awesome.

I know, it was a surprise to me too.

Conservative slave states, no change in 160 years, same people, same pathetic attitudes, same sick ideology.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in GA busted a crime ring where 100 migrant workers were unlawfully sold and traded and made more than $200 million as part of the scheme.

Members of the group were largely residents of GA, FL, and TX. Of course, those are the states they come from.
