A liquid biofuels primer: Carbon-cutting hopes vs. real-world impacts.
Three generations of biofuel sources — corn, soy, palm oil, organic waste, grasses and other perennial cellulose crops, algae, and more — have been funded, researched and tested as avenues to viable low-carbon liquid fuels. But technological and upscaling challenges have repeatedly frustrated their widespread use.

Antisemitic tweets have more than doubled on Twitter since Elon Musk took over, a new study finds.
Asked for comment, Musk's press department auto-responded with a poop emoji. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/03/20/antisemitic-tweets-soared-twitter-after-musk-took-over-study-finds/
Outrage over the massive oil-drilling #WillowProject in Alaska has focused on the climate impacts and the critical need to stop all new fossil-fuel projects.
But just as relevant: the US doesn't need the oil to be energy "independent." The US is already a net EXPORTER of oil.

Hi, thanks for you comment but it seems you are confusing 'metadata' with 'data'. Signal requires a persons phoneNumber for example.

Trump is preparing his base for violence if he’s arrested--and over 50% of them are ready. My new article: https://open.substack.com/pub/deanobeidallah/p/trump-is-preparing-his-base-for-violence
I'm working with a mentee. They are having a rough go at it and are very economically challenged. They are actively job searching.
Currently, all they have is a cell phone. I'd love to be able to get them a computer - a #Chromebook would be more than enough.
Does anyone know of a non-profit that helps get tech to socio-economically challenged folks?
I'd appreciate a boost!
Mastodon is approaching Ten Million accounts. 10, 000,000!!! Many of these new accounts will not have any idea what Mastodon and the Fediverse is about. Please share with any #newbie #new people you come across, the answers they are seeking about Mastodon, the Fediverse and Everything (almost) all in one place:
Why did the United States invade Iraq in 2003? It's incredible — in the literal sense of the term — but 20 years later we don't really know. All that news coverge, all the books, and still the reasons are opaque.
Times journalist Max Fisher suggests an answer. Many, many people in the Bush orbit wanted a war against Saddam, but for different reasons. So they settled on WMDs as a kind of common coin. From there momentum grew and grew.

One conflict between me and some people who follow me on social media: I think it's difficult to describe what Fox is, they think it's easy.
Propaganda. Entertainment. Angertainment. Pro Wrestling.
My current description of Fox:
The commercial arm of a right wing political movement, specializing in strategic resentment and aggregated grievance in the attention economy, while behind the scenes it tries to be a kingmaker and party boss, riding the tiger of manipulated rage.
@Mrfunkedude
Hilarious 😆😂😂
My wife is constantly touching my PC screen because all of her devices are touchscreen, mine is not.
Everyone losing their mind about all these #tech companies adding support for #ActivityPub / #Mastodon clearly do not remember what happens every time a new open standard starts to threaten their walled gardens.
It's literally EEE every time. There's nothing else that's going to happen. It may be driven by enthusiastic engineers or even the occasional product manager, but make no mistake: the moment that leadership can safely do it, they'll take all the new users they gained with the good PR and interoperability and lock them in.
Will the #fediverse gain some new permanent people who realize they don't like the corporate confines? Absolutely. Is this good for people in the short to mid-term? You betcha. But there's nothing exciting here. At best it's an opportunity to pull as many people as we can from the corporate controlled platforms, but historically this isn't what happens.
Sigh.
