In the US you can definitely get arrested for having a baseball bat in the trunk of your car. It is common advice to also have a glove in the trunk with the bat as that can be used to demonstrate that it is a sporting goods item and not a weapon.
Any sort of knuckles, even plastic ones, are also prohibited in many states.
It's a shitshow here.

@yogthos @adiz

Ahh the West's systemic addiction to cars, a trait meticulously duplicated by China, given that they produce a third of world's new cars (which is much more than US and EU combined), 89% of which are for sale domestically.

Greenwash is beloved by all governments and corporations all around the world.

One of the saddest parts of an #opensource maintainer's life is having to reject PRs, sometimes thousands of lines long, for no better reason than "this is not the project's direction right now and it will interfere with what we're working on".

I don't know where the "write code first ask questions later" approach came from, but I really wish we'd communicate with each other more. The fallout of not doing so isn't fun for anyone.

It's been exactly a month since we launched 404 Media because we wanted to make something sustainable, and owned & controlled by us.

None of this is possible without the support our subscribers have shown us. If you value independent small business, please subscribe at:

Here's just some of the impact we've had in one month: 404media.co/tag/impact/

We're thrilled by the support we've gotten on Mastodon so far and hope to be much more active here moving forward!

Going to launch my next X/Twitter migration report soon (next week). This is work from my day job, and we & think it will be a very helpful snapshot for folks of the state of play inside X, and quantifying what other platforms users are shopping for. The Fediverse gets featured as you would expect.

Watch this space. #TWitterMigration #XMigration

@jackofalltrades @WahbAllat @AlfredJH I don't think that any strategy that involves asking people to reduce their standard of living is going to be viable unfortunately.

The only realistic option we have now is to do geoengineering like cloud seeding to buy more time to build out clean energy infrastructure.

However, the point I keep coming back to here is that the infrastructure needs to be built, and China is building it at scale.

Further evidence points to footprints in New Mexico being the oldest sign of humans in the Americas.

AP reports "The footprints were discovered at the edge of an ancient lakebed in White Sands National Park and date back to between 21,000 and 23,000 years ago."

US Political theater

@zleap @politicsbot It took me a second to decipher but it seems like he’s saying old people bad because they can’t throw baseballs fast anymore.

BREAKING: Trump SURRENDERS to Michael Cohen, withdraws his $500 million lawsuit against Cohen — right before Trump was supposed to testify in a deposition under oath.

He conceded defeat rather than tell the truth and lose.

We have a global freshwater crisis and it going to get much, much worse

What's the solution?

AI and more data say the tech visionaries and innovators

Doesn't AI consume vast quantities of water itself?

Globally, data centers are forecast to consume 450m gallons of water daily by 2030, up from ~205m in 2016, according to data reviewed by Bloomberg.
