Why does anyone need to be walking around in public with a weapon like this?

I wish the US was a place where common sense gun laws were possible. Instead, we have a country full of people who think 18th century ideas about militias is a perfectly good reason why a man should have easy access to a weapon that can kill 16 people within seconds.

I'm sorry it was #lewistonmaine 's turn to be sacrificed on the gun lobby's altar.

Reports are circulating online that the suspect in a mass shooting in Lewiston, ME that left at least 16 people dead last night was a MAGA-type who liked posts by people like Jordan Peterson and Tucker Carlson with extreme anti-trans rhetoric.

Bill Clinton banned assault weapons in 1994; mass shootings dropped by 43%.

George W. Bush and the GOP let the assault weapons ban expire in 2004; mass shootings increased by 245%.

Unfortunately judgement always occurs after a horror.
We can prejudge based on voiced intentions, hope that the worst does not occur.
Comparisons are never fair.
But killing any civilians is never justified on any side of a conflict, no matter the number.
We had centuries to evolve from that. Calm and reason are needed.
