This is because they support what is happening in the darkness
Ordinarily, I use satire even when tackling the darkest of subjects, not to mock the people who suffer but to expose the people who cause the suffering. Today, however, as we sit in the sickening silence of the Israel-imposed blackout, viewing footage of the Gaza skyline ablaze, I simply cannot write anything that resembles humour.

When I was a sophomore in high school, the son of two of our family’s dearest friends, who was also the boy I had loved from afar since I was 10, was killed by a drunk driver.

His parents taught me a deep lesson I have never forgotten.They went in person to see him in jail, & offered him forgiveness. Instead of seeking the utmost vengeance entitled by law.

They never stopped suffering from the loss of their child, but they freed themselves of suffering & torment as well. I saw it in them.

28 October 1934 | Dutch Jewish girl, Esther Louise Pachter, was born in Amsterdam.

She was deported to Auschwitz from Westerbork in October 1942. She was murdered in a gas chamber after arrival selection.

James and another Black boy named David “Fuzzy” Simpson, eight years old, who the girl had also kissed on the cheek, were arrested by police, beaten, held in jail without contact with their families for days, denied an attorney, and sentenced to indefinite terms, ultimately serving over three months.
