@harriettmb @DrALJONES It is because, with American backing, Israel is immune to conventional warfare. It can take on all of the Middle East combined, with American backing.

Frankly, again with American backing, it could take on all of NATO that isn't America.

This isn't WW2 where number of soldiers or whatever means anything at all.

And since Israel, clearly, does not care about civilian deaths at all, sure some of its people will die, but the exposure is minimal.

With American backing.

The problem isn't we need more people to produce more Einsteins or Mozart's.

The problem is we don't nurture and protect the ones we have.

As Stephen Jay Gould wrote in The Panda's Thumb: "I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops"

@jemmesedi @Npars01 Home Depot has had unacceptable management political philosophy for far too long. Unfortunately they’ve not suffered enough consequences. Partially due to brand exclusivity among box stores. Oligopoly control hurts employees & consumers.

17 December 1943 | A Polish woman, Łucja Charewiczowa (b. 1897, no. 64373), perished in Auschwitz.

A historian of Lwów (Lviv) & researcher on the history of women.

During world war 2 she moved to Warsaw. In July 1943, for the resistance activity & participation in underground education, the Germans incarcerated her in Pawiak prison & later deported to Auschwitz, where she died of typhus.

@petergleick 100% Just as an example of not nurturing the people we have, if Stephen Hawking had been born disabled instead of becoming disabled once already ensconced in university, higher ed would have done all it could to make it impossible for him to enter research. Higher ed is preventing disabled people from being admitted and driving out those that managed to get in.

He arrived at Auschwitz on 3 October 1942 in a transport of 1,014 Jews deported from #Westerbork. He was murdered in a gas chamber after the selection.
