Anti-colonial tech: a conversation
Date: Friday 16 February 2024
Time: 18:30 - 20:00 CET
Location: Varia, Rotterdam (NL)
Deeply implicated in military and carceral operations, the infrastructures of The Cloud regime reinforce historical racist structures and support new forms of colonisation through digitised oppression. This public conversation brings together a network of networks that has been organising collectively towards systemic techno-political change for many years. The common desire across this constellation explores modes of resisting the financialised, extractive modes of Big Tech, who profit heavily from online activities on the platforms they provide, turning all content into commodity.
During the event, participants will share modest proposals for moving networks and political engagement away from toxic cloud environments. From Counter Cloud Action to Digital Discomfort and trans★feminist servers, the techno-disobedient practices they share will unsettle computationally mediated depletion, activating paths towards anti-colonial tech.

@zleap @ChrisMayLA6 agree. I guess my point is the system doesn't per se restrict them (as long as salary high enough, which it may not always be for lower science jobs) but it disincentivises people to apply. Basically, why bother with the admin, cost & uncertainty of applying to work in the UK?
I’ve a stupidly busy week coming up, so I’m starting it with a calming Daily #Wales in winter. Some mornings betoken spring - but though they look warm, they’re not.
The invention of the blue LED, one of the most difficult and important inventions ever – which allowed the white LED – is some of the craziest Chad shit I have ever heard about anything. This guy is pinnacle determination holy crap.
@MisuseCase @CelloMomOnCars @fcktheworld587 @migriverat @RiaResists @504DR absolutely! The cost of plastic recycling should be paid for by a tax on plastic producers.
October 2023 was the warmest October on record.

January 2024 was the warmest January on record.
I'm starting to see a pattern here.
A few short years ago who could even have imagined that Putin could control the United States of America. But here we are with the real possibility that through his proxies in the media, the Republican Party and Trump, Putin's control is closer to reality than ever before. Traitors make the untought-of possible.

see women in tech either
as sexual tensions for their own enjoyment or as mentoring opportunities,
but never as their equals.
This needs to stop.
