@NGIZero are you able to add your peertube link to your profile please.

> "[Social media channels] do need to start listening to the reality of how they're impacting people's mental health and the damage that they're causing through their craving for the algorithm to be able to constantly generate content regardless of whether it's good for the users or not," Jack Constantine, chief digital officer and product inventor at Lush, told the BBC's Today programme.

the sad part is these platforms know exactly what they are doing

Lush to stop some social media until it's 'safer'

(Lush is an Online cosmetics shop / company I think)

This sounds like a really good opportunity for the Fediverse to reach out and see if we can get them on to the decentralised platform.

They are looking for an alternative that is safer, well we may not be perfect but they will have more control with their own instance

Same goes for Youtube -> peertube instance.

,

I guess on a similar note if some one said "all Nazis were evil" you could try and counter that with the story of Oskar Schindler

holocaustmatters.org/who-was-o

And suggest some helped saved lives.

It would be rather controversial or contentious, however if that sparked a good discussion that would be a good thing.

IMO, the issue lies within the 'reading' of it. Most are intimidated by medical research papers, i.e. terminology used and it requires time. I have been reading such papers for decades and I still have to look up some of the terminology. I'll add I typically go back and re-read them, just to assure myself I understood the material.

There are similar issues with the current 'cancel culture' someone has branded Winston Churchill racist as he failed to help with a famine during 1943. (it may have been in India)

It seems that fails to take in to account the fact we were in the middle of world war 2. The Uk had rationing and was in immediate threat of invasion.

This is what concerns me, if you take historical figures, sure some are linked to slavery but there are two sides to every persons historical profile. We should be presented with both sides, and decide for ourselves, and others should respect that conclusion.

@johnabs I cant speak to your wife and in no way claiming her diagnosis isnt real. But I am of the opinion that 99% of high functioning autism doesnt exist. These are just the few mentally healthy people out of the society who dont play into the toxic social bullshit of everyone else.. People considered "autistic" in america would be popular kids in any social circle in europe.

@stux Because it's entertaining to overthrow people's expectations! This is the fediverse, after all! It's not just Twitter 2 😜

It's Black Friday deals week and we decided to search for deals on telescopes for the stargazers among our followers. We found 3 great ones!

First up is this 70mm refractor telescope, an excellent, inexpensive telescope for beginners: amzn.to/3x0ciO1 -AmazonAfflink

Hello Fediverse! I’ve had several people express interest in #Kiva after I posted about it recently. This inspired me to create a Fediverse Kiva team.

If you don’t know what Kiva is: it’s a philanthropic micro-lending organization that matches people who need small loans (typically a few hundred to a few thousand dollars) with people who are willing to lend. When a loan is repaid, those funds become available for you to lend again (or cash-out if you choose) thus multiplying your impact!

It’s a really neat program, I highly encourage people to check out (https://www.kiva.org), and if you do decide to sign up, join the Fediverse team to show solidarity with your fellow Fedi givers:

#GivingTuesday is coming up on December 1st. If 10 new people from the Fediverse join the Kiva Fediverse team by December 1st, I will fund 10 $25 loan credits for the people who signed up! If more than 10 people join the team, I will pick 10 team members at random to receive the $25 credits.

If you have questions about Kiva before signing up, I will do my best to answer them.

Shares and boosts appreciated.

Consumers' opinions should play a decisive role in determining project direction. You're lucky if you happen to belong to the group of consumers and engaged in building the thing at the same time but, it doesn't always happen.
