Europe confirms that manufacturers are free to sell Android phones without Google.

There no better time for @Fairphone @NOKIA Crosscall, Wiko, Gigaset @shiftphones to join @murena to introduce phones with a privacy driven OS and apps like /e/OS.

A phone number is not just a phone number.

It is also a pseudo-social security number which governments and corporations use to identify you.

This is why Session doesn't ask for your phone number.

@zleap @MattTheQuick Much love from Africa ❤️

It's much cheaper and easier than you think to start your own server on here.

If you use "managed hosting", it means the hosting company does all the techy stuff like installation, upgrades and maintenance.

The cheapest Mastodon server through managed hosting costs around 8 US dollars a month.

I've done a website all about using managed hosting at:

...and here's a long article about making your own Mastodon server:

Hi, I'm finally getting around to writing my #introduction.

I'm a #space and #aviation historian ( #histodons ). Recently, I've been studying the history of the International Space Station as a way to examine the transition from (inter)national space to commercial space. I've also been thinking about the democratization of humanity's engagement with outer space.

My cat's name is Cosmos.

I also work as a freelance copy editor.

I don’t know if this is the right place for that, but my team at Apple is looking to hire several vulnerability researchers: https://jobs.apple.com/en-us/details/200423067/swe-vulnerability-researcher-sear. The role is based in Paris but fully remote positions will be considered on an individual case basis. We also have another job opening for microarchitecture experts: https://jobs.apple.com/en-us/details/200429738/swe-microarchitecture-security-researcher-sear. Don’t hesitate to spread the word if you know someone who could be interested!

FYI, my mastodon world is feeling a bit too... linux-y? in terms of demographics, so I'm trying to boost #introduction posts of women/BIPOC/LGBT tooters I've found so far. Feel free to mute me for today if it gets annoying, but please reach out if you want to connect!

Since I've been in Israel I have really wanted to visit the regions considered Palestine still (west bank, that sort of stuff). I have strong political opinions about it all but feel i really need to see both sides first hand and interact to really have a right to feel strongly about it.

Anyway one of the Palestinian workers I hired heard about this and invited to take me and show me around. I cant tell you all how excited I am to get to do that soon.

Dear Twitter ex-pats. When we all flounced out of Twitter loudly proclaiming we were going to Mastodon this sent a message to trolls, nazis that they could set up servers & come here.

If anyone gets harrassed with hatespeech pls note that that is not the culture of Mastodon. Please report & block those users. If you notice a pattern from the same weird domain, block that domain, write a post of the server name w/ a hashtag fediblock so your server admin can follow up & block it for everyone.

What if a simple drug could make everyone less selfish?

Pessimists' take: what if a simple drug could make everyone even more selfish?

"A team of researchers from the Italian Institute of Technology recently published a ground-breaking study wherein they identified the brain neurons associated with prosocial and selfish behavior in mice. And then they figured out how to turn those neurons on and off."

I joined Mastodon a bit over four years ago. Many of my generation seem to fear that Mastodon will become like Twitter with all the new people. I do not.

The idea seems to be that Mastodon is so nice because its people are nice. I believe most people are nice. Twitter has been set up in a way to make us into monsters and to make the worst monsters look like average folks.

The design choices of Mastodon do the reverse. We will become a bit more like Twitter, but mostly stay Mastodon by design.

New tutorial for #Blender3d!
How to properly create UVs for #geometrynodes based pipes and cables.
Node tree is included!
This is a must-watch for anyone creating similar assets as it seems common that fully functional UVs are often overlooked or not deemed important.
Big thanks to @3DBystedt for the leading hint to solve this.
