Today I realised that my orcid page missed my most recent works. I went to my university academic repo, clicked on the recent entries, chose "export to orcid", and that was it. They appeared immediately on my orcid profile.

It took me literally 30 seconds, and now I want to invest the time spared to write this toot. Thank you to the people who designed that feature. #academia

That poor dog somehow got herself covered with dihydrogen monoxide. We have to hurry back home and get her decontaminated.

@zhivi @BlackMastodon I grew up in Nigeria but have lived in the US most of my life. I love Black music, dance, the amazing variety of ways we can style our hair (yay Sisterlocks!), the fact that we tend to look younger than we are, a reverence for those who are older, the sense of joy and purpose we bring to creating distinctive culture that I’ve seen wherever we are (US, Brazil, Jamaica, etc.), HBCUs.

'How you could build a search that the fediverse would welcome' by @anildash is such a good and thoughtful read. Really impressed to see so much good writing lately about the #fediverse and how to move this weird project of ours forward! :undefined::undefined: :undefined:

Why some people can't tell left from right

It can seem like an almost childish mistake, but a surprising number of adults confuse left from right and scientists are only just starting to understand why.

"Left-right discrimination is actually quite a complex process, calling upon memory, language, visual and spatial processing, and mental rotation."

Max Read on the economics of online content and attention: “there is currently no real economic punishment for content overproduction. You will almost never lose money, followers, attention, or reach simply from posting too much.”

One risk with overproduction is it heightens the chance of being mistakenly flagged as spam or a bot. But overall I think he’s correct. I’d be much “better” at social media if I just posted more. maxread.substack.com/p/matt-yg

Today in Writing History January 19, 1829: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's “Faust: The First Part of the Tragedy” premiered. It’s the story of a scientist who makes a pact with the devil to gain power and knowledge. It took him 37 years to complete the play. Goethe also published scientific works on anatomy and botany. In the late 1700s, he wrote that variation in plants and animals was due to descent from common ancestors. This idea later influenced Darwin, who also credited Goethe with discovering the intermaxillary bone. Goethe’s novel, “Sorrows of Young Werther,” led to a suicide craze in Europe.
