@hauntedhideaway no one understands this and that is because they imagine that they would simply “do the right thing” and take any amount of punishment.

@jillrhudy Yeah. I could end up unemployable in my field. And with a record, could I even get a job at Taco Bell after that?

The zero-fare public transit movement is picking up momentum

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/01/14/zero-fare-public-transit-movement-gains-momentum.html

"The “zero-fare” movement has garnered support among business groups, environmental advocates, Democratic leaders and others who say that public transit boosts local economies, mitigates climate change and is a basic necessity for many individuals. … But … it has drawn political pushback in some areas where the policy doesn’t easily fit in with budgets or local laws."

in 2019 we started doing organized weekly (now biweekly) game nights in red faction. it was the first time the game saw full 32 player servers in many years, and the activity has continued pretty steadily.

today was our 100th one, and there was a special "museum" map made to commemorate it

Please pray for these poor children, that God will help them fully recover, and find genuinely good people to care for them. This is an absolutely horrific story.

Let’s make 2023 year of the personal website.

I think a political scientist called Florida’s voter suppressing “surgically removing black people’s votes” or sth.

Also, simply because a majority of blacks identify as Democrat doesn’t mean that they exist in large enough numbers, so next to Gerrymandering and suppressing their votes through other methods, they are a minority.

UM is hiring a cog sci postdoc, and a lot of philosophers would be good fits for it.

@zleap I think I was in Toronto almost a decade before I went up the CN tower. :)

Amazon is shutting down #AmazonSmile, its charitable wing. I analyzed its TY2020 tax filings.

Four groups — the ASPCA, St. Jude’s, the Nature Conservancy and the American Red Cross — received more than $1 million. Only 24 secured more than $100,000, while about 230 got more than $10,000.

*Thousands* of churches, neighborhood associations, animal shelters and little leagues received just $5.
