I just booked my flight to Turkey for earthquake relief with Humanity First USA.

28,000+ are dead and more are dying. We need to act. I'll be on the ground. Help me raise $100,000 for Turkish & Syrian relief. $5 or $5000 — every bit helps. We need you. Donate & retoot. ❤️✊🏽 https://fundraise.humanityfirst.org/fundraiser/4441555?is_new=true

I’m making a list of journalists who write (or opine) regularly about journalism and social media from both a technical and cultural perspective. Folks like @mmasnick, @mat, @ScobIeizer, @gruber, @mathewi, @dangillmor @jeffjarvis, etc. Please reply with suggestions.

#Shell is planning to dump 11,000 tonnes of #Oil and Toxic waste in the #NorthSea. The North Sea is already facing the worst impacts of Climate Change, Decrease in Fish reserves and Eutrophication and the plan of shell will make a huge burden on North Sea resulting in deaths of more Marine creatures in North Sea.
So we are calling to #StopShell because oceans are not our dumping ground. 🌊 🛢

i’m hoping that eventually some businesses will start that will offer organizations plug and play instance set up, admin, and moderation.

Step3 - when considering job applicants, do NOT look for people who will "fit into the culture" because that's just code for "we want more people that are like ourselves" which means more white (and probably male) people.

I may sound like an idealist, but I hope that we can all pressure organizations into creating their own instances.

This is a dramatic change from how social media was previously done.

But ultimately, it's better for the future of social media.

The reason social media becomes awful when organizations join is because the people who work for them (for often legitimate reasons) want to hide the fiction of a corporation.

So they create accounts for brands.

Guess what? People don't want to talk to brands. They want to talk to people.

Therefore, brands have to do the impossible: they must convince others that they're *real people* -- even though the real people running the brands are hiding behind the facade of a corporate identity.

STRIVING FOR EDUCATION ... Youngsters from Omakango village in the Ohangwena region in #Namibia take their chairs to kindergarten every morning to be taught under a tree.

President Hage Geingob has criticized the teachers for not being creative enough to customize shelters, he said people should not wait for government everytime.

I'm not kidding. If you sell your Honda Civic hatchback on Craigslist for cash, cops can take that. If you cash your paycheck, cops can take that. You would need a lawyer that you can't afford, just to get your own money back. Cops stole more stuff from citizens in 2015, than all burglaries in the US combined.

https://washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/11/23/cops-took-more-stuff-from-people-than-burglars-did-last-year/

So the 2 forms of theft with mostly Black victims, that make up the vast majority of theft, are not even considered crimes.

Our definition of theft is arbitrary.

So I'm attending a virtual conference from home today. Being REAL productive.
