Microsoft Authenticator prompts the user to accept sharing analytics during the first launch. The prompt only dismisses when the user taps on "Accept." In fact, the app starts sending analytics even before accepting the privacy statement.🤦‍♂️

In this video, we downloaded the authenticator app from the App Store and we opened it as we monitored the iPhone network traffic. While the app was showing the permission prompt, we captured at least 3 calls made by the app sending diagnostics to Microsoft. The app sent 14 KB of analytics even before accepting the prompt.

The message on the prompt actually says that Microsoft needs to collect diagnostic data in order to keep Authenticator secure and up to date. 😵‍💫

Israelis of every political persuasion and corner of society are openly wondering whether the Jewish State can survive. Thanks, Bibi! https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/political-commentary/israel-palestine-netanyahu-democracy-autocracy-1234696058/

Stop thinking of Twitter, TikTok, IG, (et al) as social media sites.

They are **Content Refineries.**

Like processed food manufacturers they take user content & extract the most addicting/engaging content. Brains eat it up but in an unhealthy “devour the whole bag of chips” way.

They make hyper-processed social media junk food.

Mastodon is more like a potluck. We're all bringing dishes. It's a mess. Kids are running all over. But we are, at least, real people sharing real things.

Did you know that Einstein’s famous quote about God “not playing at dice” was in a letter translated by the mother of Olivia Newton John?

Olivia Newton-John was the granddaughter of pioneering quantum physicist Max Born, who formulated the probabilistic interpretation of quantum mechanics.

ONJ's mother Irene produced the oft-quoted translation, from a letter in which Einstein expressed reservations about Born's ideas.

Elon Musk asked managers at Twitter to nominate their best employees for promotion, then fired the managers and replaced them with their lower paid nominees

DeSantis is punishing the Hyatt Regency Miami for hosting a Drag Christmas ball back in December. He’s actually taken away its liquor license.

DeSantis is out of control, obsessed with oppressing freedom and gender identity expression and willing to abuse state power to do it.

@moderation

Greetings #MastoMods and Fediverse #Moderation community members!

In a world of #BetterSocialMedia we will need more and more moderation resources to support a growing community.

Surveys have shown need for access to legal and compliance resources, additional #moderators , improved moderation tools and template documentation.

What would you like to see made available to help continue supporting a safe and civil Fediverse?

Out tonight...The Astronomer with his own Sun!

Tennessee is about to take away more rights

SB 1440 will codify sex as “a person’s immutable biological sex as determined by anatomy and genetics existing at the time of birth and evidence of a person’s biological sex”

TN just passed a law preventing trans youth from accessing medical care

And a law stripping 1A rights by banning drag shows

When this heads to the Supreme Court and “people” will be defined as anyone non-LGBTQ+ – will anyone care then?

Ella Fitzgerald was barred from performing at the Mocambo club in the 1950s due to her race. Marilyn Monroe, a fan of Ella's music, intervened and promised to attend nightly if they booked Ella. The owner agreed, & Marilyn kept her promise. Ella's career skyrocketed.

Ooh, THIS is clever. I'm in for anything that both saves energy and keeps public swimming pools open.

“We built a small data centre in Exmouth leisure centre. Most normal data centres waste the heat that the computers generate. We capture ours and we give it for free to the swimming pool to heat the pool,” https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/mar/14/innovative-heat-tech-save-england-swimming-pools-from-closure #Swimming #heat #climate #Sport

The first presentation of our workshop on #reproducibility in #CancerBiology was by Tim Errington from the Center for Open Science.
Here's the link to the video (skipping the initial 12 min and going straight to Tim's presentation)

and we are live!! you can back the MNT Pocket Reform (open hardware 7" mini laptop) campaign now: https://www.crowdsupply.com/mnt/pocket-reform

and we are very thankful for spreading the word!

Feels like we've entered a worrying new phase where even the most outlandish statements are receiving broad coverage:

- Hitchens, L. Fox, & other such luminaries, currently arguing that *the Nazis* were 'leftists'
- Calvin Robinson asking if 'women's rights have gone too far'
- Bridgen spouting antivaxx conspiracies in the HoC
- Forbes saying LGBTQ+ should have a 'choice' to undergo conversion therapy

Feel like I don't recognise the UK anymore.
