Now, to be fair to mastodon.social we also have a spammer issue at SDF - but the difference is we try to keep an eye on new accounts and act to ban them pre-emptively if they clearly intend to enroll to spam.

On the other hand, the more the Fediverse will grow and the more these issues will become pressing. Maybe now is the time to start putting together solutions that are more robust and much, much more protective of all users.
