After 15 years of Twitter, Cambridge Analytica, and now new medical research finding kids can be negatively affected. I am still astonished at how easily so many seem willing to make the same mistakes all over again without ever asking "is any of this socially beneficial? Are we doing this wrong?"

Humans!

Please don't send us any more unsolicited nude pics with instructions on how to get to your house.
It's creepy.

Sincerely,

A new episode of the #Wikimove #podcast came out earlier this month, focusing on #decentralization within the #Wikimedia movement

https://www.wikimedia.de/wikimove-site/podcast/episode-11-decentralization/

"Our guests explain where these concepts [of decentralization and subsidiarity] came from, and why they are central to the future governance model. We explore what decentralization could mean in practice for areas such as fundraising, software development and advocacy."

WHO COULD HAVE KNOWN?!

A new report alleges widespread sexual abuse by the Catholic clergy in Illinois. Will conservatives call for a ban on minors in churches?

Rampant child sexual abuse is occurring in churches — not at drag shows https://www.msnbc.com/the-reidout/reidout-blog/illinois-catholic-church-child-abuse-rcna86289

Lighthouses are no longer maintained by actual lighthouse keepers. But, if you could, would you be one? (Assume living essentials, a modest income, and four weeks off every year are part of the deal.)

I’m grateful that we have a president who honors and pays tribute to our fallen heroes, and doesn’t consider them “losers” and “suckers.”

Centralized media endangers us all.

Tonight, as wildfires tear through communities in western Halifax, Canadian broadcast television has been showing us Alberta election coverage. Even the CBC is giving us a national television feed (though CBC radio has been covering things, at least).

We saw the same thing during the overnight mass shootings in 2020.

The elimination of local, real time news media is going to get people killed. I'm beyond sure that it has in other communities. Maybe it even did here 3 years ago.

By focusing on Confederate contributions, they obscured and downplayed the role of African-Americans in establishing Decoration Day, which later evolved into Memorial Day. This intentional distortion of history aimed to reinforce the Confederate narrative and marginalize the African-American contributions to American history and remembrance.

@Ulrich_the_Elder The United States & her allies defeated Nazi Germany, but the U.S. refrained from defeating the Nazi part of America - a burden, that's still harmful.

Immediately after the war the allies banned the swastika, the Nazi party & the publication of "Mein Kampf" in Germany - none of that happened in the U.S., on grounds of a potentially dangerous & self-destructive naïve interpretation of the First Amendment.

"While America protects the right of neo-Nazis, white supremacists, the Ku Klux Klan, and other hate groups to hold public rallies and express their views openly, Germany has strict laws banning Nazi symbols and what’s called Volksverhetzung — incitement of the people, or hate speech. Like more than a dozen European countries, Germany also has a law criminalizing Holocaust denial."

Free speech has & needs limits — to prevent harm & protect the Rule of the People aka democracy.

You ever get the feeling most companies and organizations in existence seem to think that if someone can't call them, for example, someone who can't hear on telephones to use them, they just don't matter?

Send email; "Call us!"

Send text; "Call us!"

How about you answer using the same means a customer contacts you?

Is that really difficult to grasp?

More than 20,000 innocent Ukrainian children lost their most precious childhood memories - like playing with friends.

Now they are exposed to the cruelty of war.

We must act now to claim their freedom and bring them back home to an independent Ukraine.
