'Latin America is taking on a pioneering role in this. In Latin America, scientific outputs are considered a public good. Free-to-publish and free-to-read cooperative publishing is supported by non-commercial and publicly funded infrastructure. Ninety-five per cent of Latin American journals are diamond open access: community-driven and collaborative platforms with no article processing charges. Their example shows us that research is a more global and diverse enterprise than is typically acknowledged. By including diverse voices, they contribute substantially to the academic landscape and the accessibility and dissemination of research3. Unfortunately, these journals tend to be excluded by indexing systems, which causes science published outside of the Global North to not receive the attention that it deserves.'
its difficult for protestors (or anyone) to train to be engineers to work at the DNO (distribution network operators, smaller solar schemes feed in at this network) or National Grid when few of them are hiring at entry level (just had a look at vacancies and they are clearly either hoping to poach staff from other companies with experience, or these are planned to be filled internally but only advertised externally because of some HR policy..)
to further develop renewable energy (and affordable, reliable EV charging schemes) is going to require funding outside the "free market" chasing after short term profits - at the moment its stalling as everyone's arguing over who will pay for it...

I used my employer's HR form to request an assessment for 'reasonable adjustments' relating to disability. Requests are outsourced to a specialist provider.
They said I needed to supply my phone number as all assessments take place over the phone.
Their company's mission statement is: to create an inclusive society which embraces diversity and releases potential to advance humanity.
And they only do business by phone.
"What we are witnessing now is only the beginning of a climate and biodiversity destabilization that will continue to spiral and get worse unless we start to act.
The people in power are continuously sawing off the branch we are all sitting on." - @gretathunberg
”A tax of 50 to 90 percent on the windfall profits of 722 mega-corporations could generate between $523 billion and $941 billion both for 2021 and 2022. This is money that could be used to help people struggling with hunger, rising energy bills and poverty in rich countries, [...]” Read the full press release by @Oxfam

Facebook, digital privacy and security
Please remember that discussing pregnancy or contraception on Insta, Facebook, or Threads is dangerous to all involved; Meta eagerly collaborates with law enforcement.
If helping somebody circumvent state-level bans on reproductive care, I highly recommend using Tor and other digital privacy tools.
I know everyone is used to faceless mods or a bot dealing with reports, but it's different here. On this Instance (and many others) the mods reading reports come from diverse backgrounds, including socially and/or historically marginalised peoples with lived experiences of standing up against hate and prejudice.
Which means, mods on Mastodon are constantly reading and discussing reports about posts with content that has real impacts on them. It might just be words to whoever is posting them (and to be frank, it is often centralists and self-proclaiming liberals/left). But for many mods, these posts often represent the oppression, trauma, violence and otherising that we survive on a daily basis.
So please think of the real people dealing with reports. Who know what they are doing, and are committed to making Mastodon an inclusive space. And please - reflect on what impact your edgy posts might have on others.
