The Electronic Frontier Foundation will award Alexandra Elbakyan, founder of the 'pirate' library Sci-Hub, for her efforts to provide access to scientific knowledge.

Without Sci-Hub, many academics would be unable to complete their research projects.

#EFF also highlights that Elbakyan’s work helps to challenge the current academic publishing system, where researchers are used as unpaid workhorses.

yes I am posting about journals and social media and how they are related again

the number of ppl perhaps rightly mourning the decay of academic twitter as one of the only ways to share, find and talk about research seems like it points directly to the fundamental hollowness of the current journal system as a means of uh sharing, finding, and talking about research.

our for-profit system of communication is so hostile to the way we want to work that we became dependent on a different, also very hostile informational chokepoint.

I think it is a pretty normal idea to want to try to rebuild our communication systems ourselves, in common. whatever that looks like. I get why that's weird or boring or scary to ppl I just think it would be fun and good to do.

BREAKING: The grand jury that was convened to determine whether to indict Donald Trump over January 6th has left for the day...

HOWEVER...

The jury foreperson has not yet been seen. Technically, you only need the foreperson present when a grand jury returns an indictment. 👀

We will keep you posted.

Rishi Sunak’s family firm signed a billion-dollar deal with BP before the UK opened new North Sea licences.

The CEO of one of Infosys' other major clients, Shell, also joined Rishi Sunak's new business council two weeks ago.

@zleap @mike35 an amazingly togother guy as in a "froody dude who really knows where his towel is at..."

Running a coop in a capitalist system is no fun and difficult— but I bet Twitter the worker owned coop would be doing better than this without breaking a sweat.

I say that not because I think coops are really viable with current regulations and conditions— but just on the basics like providing services making ad money and having staff even a co-op could beat this mess. Easy. Even with extra arguing.

Cheers, also got video preview working :blobcheer:

Unfort the video doesn't get dispatched to ffmpeg now 🤔 and it takes the uploaded one but ill fix that :goose_hacker:

In the scheme of things, mankind is just another parasite.

Infosys, the family firm of Sunak’s wife, made $1.5 billion from a BP contract months before Sunak announced new gas and oil licences.

Infosys is still trading with Russia.

Yet they claim those shoplifting to feed their babies are criminals.

We should be fucking rioting.

So I've recently been laid off and I'm seeking a new opportunity.

If your company is in need of a technically-astute marketing person, then you've found the right candidate!

I can handle any of technical troubleshooting, editing, long-copy, short-copy, segment/market/audience research, product design/feedback & community engagement.

I also do recon/research and write code too.

@zleap Organ donors are brain-dead, but typically their bodies are still alive up until immediately before the donated organs are collected. It is extraordinarily unlikely that the donated lungs came from a "dead host."
