Mastodon was the only place to catch every suggested short story I posted in July due to other social media shenanigans. But you still may have missed one.

I've got you covered, with a round-up over at my blog:

This graph is making the rounds again on other social media sites. It begs the question "Why do men pay off their student loans, but women can't/won't?"

It's not Black history month, but you already know the answer!

Black women are forced to borrow more for their education. Then Black women are paid less when they graduate, even for the same degree.

A disproportionate amount of the $1.7 Trillion of loan debt (not a typo. Trillion. With a "T.") is held by Black women that did everything right)

A coworker asked me if I had big plans for the fall. It took me way too long to realize they meant “Autumn” and not the collapse of civilization…

Hello everyone! This is Benjamin Hollon; I spun up a GoToSocial instance to try out.

I will not be moving permanently, but I will be messaging some from this account and putting it through the motions. Feel free to ask questions!

The main water feature at THE NATIONAL BOTANIC GARDEN OF WALES is this long, pebble lined rill. It snakes it's way down the central avenue, sometimes going underground before popping back up again, or flowing around groups of ancient boulders. It ends at a large spiral and fountain. #nbgw

It is rather disappointing that despite the successes of the women's game, the UK press decide to publish a poster of the men's premier league fixtures, but not a similar poster for the women's game.

Seems there is still a lot of work to be done here.

We just had to send 2 warships to the Red sea...3000 US troops.

We recently had to deploy 4 destroyers to Alaska because of coordinated threatening maneuvers from both Russia and China.

TBH, I think trump already endangered #NationalSecurity of this country either for profit or for favor.

The indictments are likely the tip of the iceberg and only what can be made public.

@strypey @slightlyoff @fabrice I think we're veering deeply off topic, but if you expect me to support everyone who works in any field of work in the name of solidarity, hard pass from me. I can absolutely hope people who work to support Donald Trump get fired and struggle to pay rent because of it.

People trying to build the torment nexus at Google can go in the same bucket.

Hopefully this subject is nothing anyone in the Fediverse need worry about personally but it's still a very interesting read about what happens to people who make mistakes on social media. Horrible, devastating mistakes.

The author Jon Ronson, is genuinely kind in how he interacts with his subjects. As a result, he gets more honest and candid responses from them.

This paper has comprehensively demonstrated why you don't roll your own anonymization (unless extremely qualified). It's pretty epic:

insidehighered.com/sites/defau

... It also demonstrates that a bunch of
economists will say a lot of hateful things (sexist, racist, homophobic, and antisemetic) if they think they're anonymous. So many people are trying to get this replaced by a moderated alternative.

Paper is worth a read to drop your jaw at the terribleness of either angle. Or both.
