We used to be a proper country (have cool bookplates)

A white supremacist with a history of violence and mental illness was allowed to legally buy a Glock and an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle in Florida because Ron DeSantis thinks Mickey Mouse and the teaching of Black history are more urgent problems than guns and white supremacy.

“We need to stop burning fossil fuels,” said Dr Friederike Otto at Imperial College London. “Now. Not some time when we’ve allowed companies to make all the money they possibly can.”

“America has given the Negro people a bad check. A check which has come back marked ‘insufficient funds’.”

Judge Tanya Chutkan laid down the law with Trump this morning and set a March 4, 2024 trial date. These words in particular are welcome: “Setting a trial date does not depend and should not depend on the defendant’s personal and professional obligations. Mr. Trump, like any defendant, will have to make the trial date work regardless of his schedule.”

From an amateur science view point, what is the acceptable tolerance for weighing out solids to be made up to a solution.?

1 want to make up 0.5M Sodium Chloride in 100ml solution, so I need 2.92g. Attempting to weigh this seems to make my scales either hit 2.92 or go 0.1g either way e.g 2.91 or 2.93. I think for Amateur science this is acceptable.

It does seem that I can have the exact amount, as soon as I transfer it to different vessel e.g beaker to beaker or beacker to flask, some is lost anyway. 0.1 of NaCl is such a tiny amount.

Proper lab scales go to 3 or 4 decimal places, my scales go to two decimal places.

Am I trying to be too precise trying to get to exactly 2.92g?

Ok fine I made a thing. It’s not going to win any skill prizes and it’s best not to look too closely at the solder joins, but I’ve Done A Thing that’s meaningful to me and that’s what matters.

Philadelphia is offering free HEPA purifiers in schools and Early Childhood Education Centers.

Wouldn't this be great if it became a national trend?

This is one of the mugs that I made. I often pick jewel tones for my work. The tactile nature of pottery works well for me.

Now that I have a studio at home, I should be able to make more things, more often, which I'm really excited about.

@nfl

Is there a transfer / trade window in NFL ? A deadline for when players can be traded ?

I’m late to the party but congratulations to the Indian Space Agency for being the fourth country to land on the moon.

The trip cost $75 million which is cheaper than a bunch of Hollywood movies about going to space including Gravity & Interstellar.

The space race is back.

For future reference: To set up a Raspberry Pi Zero 1.3 to use SSH via USB:

add an empty ssh file into rootfs

edit config.txt to include "dtoverlay=dwc2" at the last line

add "modules-load=dwc2,g_ether" after "rootwait" in cmdline.txt

when connected, assign it a static IP using:

sudo ifconfig devicename [ip] netmask 255.255.255.0

And... that should be it.

After running raspi-config the empty ssh file might be deleted, so you will need to re-create it directly on the SD card.
