Wow, one of my PhD students spotted an APC scam. A paper that had been accepted to a journal and went online triggered a scam email that asked for the Article Processing Charges (>$3000) to an email address that used the name of the journal but at gmail.com . I can see how people at a very early stage of publication can fall for it. Be careful #phdchat #openscience #openaccess

REMINDER: ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, and other large trained neural models are NOT "artificial intelligence", they're just stochastic parrots, remixing and regurgitating what they've been fed. There's no theory-of-mind involved, so no understanding: there's no "there" there. (A real live parrot exhibits more intelligence than this.)

Don't call it AI; call it parrot-tech. That way you'll have a better perspective on what it can (and can't) do.

@rabbijill Rabbi, I'm from a long way away from Israel or Palestine and don't really see myself as having the right ro comment.

But I'm going to put up an idea and please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm thinking that the vast majority of people in both Israel and Palestine are just trying to live their lives in peace and quiet. They're not the ones firing missiles or demolishing houses. They're just trying to get by.

For what it's worth they have my full support, whatever side they are.
